We are talking about Sanket Parekh, an IIT Bombay pass-out who worked as a chemical engineer in the US but later quit his high-paying job to become a monk. Sanket Parekh's mother was as stunned by his decision when her 29-year-old atheist son decided to give up his high-paying job to attain 'Diksha'.
Sanket Parekh was introduced to Jainism by a senior of his at IIT Bombay named Bhavik Shah. He had taken 'Diksha' in 2013. While having an online chat, their conversation took a philosophical turn and Sanket Parekh was drawn toward the concept of the soul, mind, and body.
Sanket Parekh left his luxurious lifestyle and began to read up about Jainism, as per a media report. He then spent two and a half years under Acharya Yugbhushansurji to learn the rituals and other basics.
"I was an atheist," the Times of India quoted Parekh as saying. "I would have got everything if I had decided to have a career, but my inner self would never have been at peace like it is today."
While Sanket Parekh didn’t reveal his last drawn salary, he did tell TOI that he was paying Rs 12 lakh per annum as income tax.
Sanket Parekh’s father passed away a few years ago. He said that he had to try hard to convince his mother about this change in his lifestyle, but when he told her that only this path would make him happy, she accepted.
