Becoming an IAS officer is a cherished dream for many, but only a few achieve this prestigious milestone each year. In this article, we'll delve into the inspiring journey of IAS B Abdul Nasar who beat all odds to become an IAS officer. Remarkably, Nasar did not follow the traditional route of excelling in the UPSC exam in order to become an IAS officer.

Hailing from Thalasseri in Kerala's Kannur, lost his father when he was five years old. His mother worked as a domestic worker, and he and his siblings lived in an orphanage. After that, Nasar completed his education while living in an orphanage in Kerala for 13 years. He started working as a hotel supplier and cleaner at age ten. He fled his orphanage as well, but he eventually went back to complete his studies.

He completed high school and graduated from Thalassery's government college in spite of the difficult circumstances. Nasar also worked odd jobs as a phone operator, tuition teacher, and newspaper delivery man to support his family.

Nasar then joined Farook College in Kozhikode and pursued his Masters and B.Ed.

After receiving his postgraduate degree, he was hired by the government in 1994 as an official in the Kerala Health Department. In 2006, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Collector within the State Civil Service. Nassar was recognised as the top Deputy Collector of Kerala in 2015.

In 2017, he was promoted to the rank of IAS officer. He served as Housing Commissioner to the Government of Kerala. He is currently posted as the District Collector of Kollam in 2019.
