Some people are extremely motivated in their lives that they do great things at a very young age, which is a beacon of inspiration for numerous. 

One such inspiring story is of IAS officer Ishwarya Ramanathan who cracked UPSC twice at the age of 24. 

Hailing from the coastal district of Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu, Ishwarya faced various natural disasters like floods, cyclones, and heavy rains since childhood. The 2004 tsunami especially, had a profound impact on her. Inspired by the role of collector Gagandeep Singh Bedi during that tough time left a deep impression on her. 

She was also compelled by her financial position at home to aspire for big things. Her father’ R. Ramanathan is a cashew farmer. While her mother, who was married young and later got a government job, also encouraged Ishwarya to become a collector.

Embarking on that journey, Ishwarya first graduated with an engineering degree from Anna University, Chennai in 2017. She then began preparing for the UPSC exam during her college days by taking coaching. In her first attempt, her All India Rank was 630 and she got into Railway Accounts Service. However, she was highly motivated by her dream of becoming an IAS officer. 

Thus, in her second attempt in 2019, Ishwarya successfully cleared the UPSC exam with an AIR of 47, achieving her dream of becoming an IAS officer.

In an interview after the result, Ishwarya asserted that becoming an IAS officer was her childhood dream, fuelled by her mother.

Thus, Ishwarya became one of the youngest IAS officers in India when she was just 24 years old. Presently, she is serving as the Sub-Collector, SDM, in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur.

Apart from her profession, Ishwarya is active on social media, especially Instagram, where she boasts over one lakh followers.
