It’s common to hear of a bestseller being made into a movie; though the success of the book doesn’t necessarily translate it into a hit flick. Here are some books that our celebs think would be a runaway success:

Pankaj Advani, billiards player
Champion cyclist Lance Armstrong’s autobiography It Is Not About The Bike can be a good screen adaptation. The book is a detailed memoir of his fight with cancer and how he survived it all by sheer motivation and self-belief. In the book, Lance discusses much of his internal battles to beat cancer, which he terms as his proudest and most difficult accomplishment — even harder than winning the Tour de France. It’s about fighting your inner chi and coming out on tops in life’s struggle.

I feel Ranbir Kapoor can do a good portrayal of Armstrong what with all the diverse characters that he has been essaying with aplomb of late!

Sanjay Gupta, filmmaker
I think A Million Little Pieces by James Fray would make for a great flick. It’s an autobiographical account of the 23-year-old author who destroyed his mind and body with the excessive use of every available narcotic and enters a rehab centre to reclaim life. It’s a brutally candid memoir; one of the darkest yet most uplifting tales. Hollywood has been toying with the idea of remaking it for years.

If made here, I believe Saif Ali Khan or Abhay Deol should fit well as the lead.

Koena Mitra, actor
I think Sidney Sheldon’s Rage of Angels would be an amazing book to be turned into a 70 minute drama. It has all the elements of a Bollywood potboiler; a love triangle between a successful lawyer, a politician and a mafia don with generous doses of over-the-top drama, deceit and betrayal. The characters are also beautifully etched and the chemistry between them is simmering hot and so very palpable making it extremely interesting.

I think Arjun Rampal and Saif Ali Khan would be great as the protagonists of the movie.

Celina Jaitley, actor
I’d love to see a Bollywood film being made Shrabani Basu’s Spy Princess (The life of Noor Inayat Khan).  It’s one of the most inspirational stories of an Indian girl (descendant of Tipu Sultan) at the time of World War II. She became the only Asian secret agent in Second World War and one of the three women to be awarded the George Cross and the Croix de Guerre.

Nobody but I should play Noor Inayat Khan. I feel like Noor because even though I believe in peace I deal with the horrors of hidden fascism in people’s attitude. I’m a fifth generation army girl and have the heart and mentality of a soldier.
