'Delhi-6' is more than a movie for director Rakeysh Mehra

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has said that his latest movie Delhi-6 was a journey into his childhood memories.
    
"Delhi-6 is much more than a movie. I have dipped the pen in the ink of my childhood memories and setting them against today's contemporary India, have tried to weave a story," Mehra said.
    
"We are all living in difficult times and the film urges us to look within and if there is an answer then it is love because that's the law of nature and its creation," he said.
    
Delhi-6 is a story of a young American boy of Indian origin, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan), who comes to India for the first time, with his ailing grandmother (Waheeda Rehman) who wants to retire and spend the last leg of her life in the country she was born in.
    
Having led a western lifestyle, Roshan is not familiar with the sights and smells, food, culture, religion and beliefs of the melting pot of India. He thought Dadi has left her family and loved ones back in America, only to realise how wrong he was.
    
The warmth and affection of the neighbourhood embraces him with open arms. Amidst all this he meets Bittu (Sonam Kapoor), who is looking for identity and expression and wants to break free from the typical Indian social structure.

The film's story is told against the backdrop of the ancient walled city of Delhi. A microcosm of India, the city represents the chaos of our land, its people, their religion and beliefs, Mehra said.
    
"The pin code of this old city is 110006. With pride and love, the locals call it Delhi-6, a place where I spent my childhood," Mehra said.
