I actually wanted to be in the army: Yash Gera

He’s not considered to be conventionally good-looking and yet, Yash Gera has managed to carve a niche out for himself in Hindi teleserials in India. The young actor, after quite the successful innings in TV, is now planning to make his move to the bigger screen.

“I am extremely happy with the kind of serials I have been doing, be it Palampur Express or the more popular Pyar Kii Ye Ek Kahani — they have made me a recognisable face all across the country — but I finally think it’s time for me to move on. I will continue in serials, but also concentrate on a film career,” says Yash as we caught up with him a few days ago.

Yash Gera recently signed a film called Ussey Kya Ho Jayega and by the look of the trailers out on YouTube now, we can safely assume that Yash has quite the meaty role in the film.

“I was quite worried about the project when I first heard about it, but now looking at how it’s turned out, it just brings a smile to my face,” the young actor adds.

While Ussey Kya Ho Jayega will mark the actor’s debut in the film industry, Yash is more excited about his role in the upcoming Chori Ka Maal Mori Mein, being directed by Ashok Tyagi of Surkhiyan (1985) fame.

“I play the role of someone called Baba Azmi and that’s about all that I can say about the role. The role is extremely different from everything else I’ve done and is a suspense thriller — a genre that I’ve always been interested in,” the actor enthuses.

So how did it all start we ask Yash. “You won’t believe it, first I wanted to be in the army and then after that didn’t work out I became a DJ. It was then that I chanced upon a role in a serial and my teleserial days began. Through my serials, I got my first film offer and the journey continues. Though I love all the work I have done, I am dying to do a role with negative shades — I really want to be a villain — really!” he  laughs.

The young actor has a lot coming his way and is also a popular face in the advertising industry. “I’ve heard so much about the industries in the south and while some people are scared about the language barriers, I don’t really care. If something good comes my way, don’t be surprised if you see me on the next Tamil, Telugu or Kannada film poster,” Yash concludes.
