A day after actor Vishal’ sensational claim that he paid Rs 6.5 lakh to a ‘mediator’ to get his latest release Mark Anthony certified by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC), the government has said that it is launching an investigation in the alleged corruption. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tweeted on Friday that it has appointed a senior officer to conduct an enquiry in the matter.

On Friday afternoon, the ministry’s official Twitter account wrote, “The issue of corruption in CBFC brought forth by actor @VishalKOfficial is extremely unfortunate. The Government has zero tolerance for corruption and strictest action will be taken against anyone found involved.  A senior officer from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has been deputed to Mumbai to conduct an inquiry today itself.”

In the tweet, the ministry urged other stakeholders to also come forward and report any instances of such alleged corruption or harassment. “We request everyone to cooperate with the Ministry, by providing information about any other instance of harassment by CBFC at jsfilms.inb@nic.in,” the tweet further read.

On Thursday, Vishal uploaded a video on his social media handles alleging corruption at the CBFC saying he paid a huge sum to a ‘mediator’ to get the Hindi version of his latest release Mark Antony certified. In the video, he also requested Maharashtra's Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against the culprits. The actor even shared the details of the transaction in the caption with the name of the account holders.

In the caption, Vishal wrote, "#Corruption being shown on silver screen is fine. But not in real life. Can't digest. Especially in govt offices. And even worse happening in the #CBFC Mumbai office. Had to pay 6.5 lacs for my film #MarkAntonyHindi version. 2 transactions. 3 Lakhs for screening and 3.5 Lakhs for certificate. Never faced this situation ever in my career. Had no option but to pay the concerned mediator #Menaga coz too much at stake since movie released today."

Mark Antony is a Tamil science-fiction action comedy also starring SJ Suryah, alongside Ritu Varma, Sunil, Selvaraghavan, and Abhinaya. The film was released in theatres on September 15 with the Hindi version releasing this week.
