Singer Jimmy Buffett has filed an application to have actor Charlie Sheen's infamous references to "tiger blood" turned into a trademark name for a new cocktail.

Sheen, 45, had referred to his red-coloured energy drink as "tiger blood" during a recent media blitz that led to him being fired from his CBS comedy series Two and a Half Men, Fox News reported.

According to TMZ.com, 64-year-old Buffett's company, Margaritaville Enterprises, filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office earlier this week to use the name for a vodka and energy drink.

Sheen's endorsement sparked an interest in the product worldwide with bars, alcohol brands and even celebrities jumping on the "tiger blood" bandwagon.

The singer runs a series of business ventures through his company, based on his hit 1977 single, that include two restaurant franchises, a brewing label and an apparel and accessory line.
