Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD has taken a stupendous start at the ticket window days before its release. The advance booking of tickets opened in India on Sunday, four days ahead of the film’s Thursday release. And if the first 24 hours are any indication of the film’s performance in theatres, one thing is certain – Kalki is certain for a massive opening. The advance bookings have obliterated records left, right, and centre in the first day itself.

Kalki 2898 AD stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. The massive star cast and the film’s scale has generated a huge buzz for it across India. In the first 24 hours of the ticket window opening for pre-sales, Kalki 2898 AD has earned over Rs 6 crore in India, selling over 2 lakh tickets for its opening day. The bulk of this earning is from the Telugu version, which has seen advance booking of nearly Rs 5.80 crore as of Monday morning. But the Hindi version opened its theatres on Monday fully, which means the collections will pick pace now.
How Kalki 2898 AD advance booking is breaking records
The Rs 6-crore mark touched by Kalki 2898 AD in its first 24 hours is just slightly ahead of what Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan had managed in its advance bookings during the same time frame. The pace is still behind that of Jawan, RRR, and KGF Chapter 2, the other big hits post-pandemic. But given that the Hindi bookings have opened late, Kalki 2898 AD has the time to catch up. Interestingly, in just over a day, Kalki 2898 AD has surpassed the total advance bookings of this year’s other big films like Chandu Champion (Rs 1.22 crore) and Maidaan (Rs 2.60 crore). By Monday afternoon, less than 36 hours after the pre-sales began, it will overtake this year’s biggest Bollywood hit Fighter as well. The Hrithik Roshan-starrer had managed Rs 8 crore in total advance bookings in January.

Kalki 2898 AD is a dystopian sci-fi film inspired by Indian mythology. Director Nag Ashwin says he envisioned it as a sort of sequel to the epic Mahabharat. Intended to be the first part of a two-film story, the film stars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan. Kalki 2898 AD releases in theatres on June 27.
