Nandita Das wins three awards in Spain

Nandita Das’ directorial debut Firaaq that has already been a hit among the critics and has made India proud in several international awards has struck gold again. The film was a part of the ninth edition of the Imagineindia film festival that ran from May 18 to 29 in Madrid, Spain.

77 films from 18 countries were screened at 10 venues in the festival under Indian Section, Asian Section and International Section. Firaaq won the Best Film while Nandita was awarded the Best Director at the film festival. Acclaimed character actor Deepti Naval was declared the Best Actress for the movie.

“The film thankfully has been continuing its festival rounds and people in India are slowly but steadily watching the film on the DVD, apart from private screenings that various forums are organising. And the response has been very overwhelming, to say the least,” says an official close to the actor.
