The young child actor is a 30-year-old star in the Tamil Film Industry today, but one thing that never seems to leave him is controversies. Silambarasan aka Simbu aka STR has always said he calls a spade a spade, but his statements and actions in recent times have snowballed into issues that just refuse to die down. While some people say he does it for attention, others claim he is currently going through a low phase in his life. Whatever may be the reason behind his statements and actions, one thing is for sure - he is controversy's favourite child.

His relationships

Like any young man, the actor has had his share of relationships, but his come with a twist. Simbu has been linked to numerous actresses in recent years. When Simbu was in a relationship with actress Nayanthara, pictures of the couple kissing surfaced in 2009 post their break-up. The media went all out, publishing the photos and there was allegedly even a statement by Simbu, who confessed to releasing the photos. However, Nayanthara and the actor are friends today.

Then, actress Hansika and Simbu were in a relationship between 2012 and 2014. While Simbu spoke to the media about how he wanted to marry Hansika, she didn’t speak about him, except stating that they dated and broke up. Post their break-up, video footage was released of Simbu allegedly kissing Kannada actress Harshika at SIIMA (South Indian International Film Awards) in 2014. But the Kannada actress stated it wasn’t her and that the video was morphed.

His spiritual adventure

The actor’s Vaalu released after nearly three years in 2015. During this period, he didn’t work on any other films and was seen indulging in spirituality, when he went off to the Himalayas in 2013. Post the trip, he said he had become more spiritual and his ‘soul was different’. He also stated he had changed as a person. But film industry sources say that he continues to be the errant person he always was - coming late to shoots, not turning up for appointments and so on.

Akon and the 'Love Anthem'

The actor-singer’s ‘Love Anthem’ with Akon was supposed to be recorded in 2011. However, this also ended up in a controversy. Simbu apparently went through a tout agency which fleeced them for nothing. His father, T Rajendar, then filed a police complaint against the agency. Simbu subsequently went through another agency and finally got Akon down to Chennai in 2013 to record the song. The latest version of that song is yet to release.

Nadigar Sangam Elections 2015

Actor Vishal was at the forefront of the Nadigar Sangam (South Indian Film Artistes' Association) elections this year as it was widely felt they needed a change. Vishal was heading the Pandavar Ani and Simbu was roped in by the then President of Nadigar Sangam, Sarath Kumar, to stand for the post of Vice President. A press conference was called on October 7 and the actor attacked Vishal, going to the extent of calling him names. He added, “I have been in this industry since I was a nine-month old child. I won’t tolerate someone new coming in and breaking the cinema family.” The Pandivar Ani won the elections by a thumping majority.

The ‘Beep Song’ 2015

The latest controversy that the 30-year-old finds himself in is the use of vulgar language derogatory to women in the ‘Beep Song’. Simbu has told the media that he and Anirudh worked on this private song (sung by Simbu) which somehow leaked to the public. Meanwhile, Anirudh has clarified that he has nothing to do with the song. There was outrage on social media and women’s groups and Simbu even told a newspaper that he would not apologise for the use of derogatory language against women in the song.

Simbu’s father T Rajendar has filed a police complaint stating that the culprit who leaked the song has to be caught. In Coimbatore, a police case has been registered against Simbu and Anirudh for indecent representation of women. In reply to this, Simbu tweeted on December 14, “Ready to face the course of law, nothing to hide or run, I believe in God, He will tc. Have strong belief in integrity & truth. God bless.”
