Football match related stress could trigger off a heart attack say doctors, especially during this year's World Cup.

Ardent football followers get so excited while watching the match that the overexertion could lead to a cardiac arrest.

The stress factor is not just because of the outcome of the match but also due to the nail-biting moments during the match.

German Doctor Ute Wilbert-Lampen studied 4,279 heart attacks in or around Munich after the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

"The result is not important. Rather, the vital factor is how stressful and tense the match is," she told Daily Star.

Professor Hoosen Vawda, of the South African KwaZulu-Natal University, told fans to stay detached at the FIFA World Cup tournament, which kicks off on June 11.

"The event is meant to be enjoyed in the spirit of sportsmanship, not to die for," he advised.
