34 minor girls raped: Muzaffarpur shelter home becomes a house of horror

While political blame game is going on in Bihar, several girls have come forward to give horrific details about their stay at the shelter home.

According to the Times of India, some girls said that they would cut themselves on arms and legs to avoid sexual abuse. A girl recalled how they would bleed in pain to avoid ‘ganda kaam.’  - PTI

The shocking incident came to light after a social audit by a Mumbai-based institute. A girl from the shelter home has alleged that one of her fellow inmates was beaten to death and buried at the premises of the facility, and several were raped.

Members of the Bihar Pradesh Congress shout protests against the rape of several girls in a governmen-funded shelter home in Bihar's Muzaffarpur. The shelter home had entered into an agreement with Social Welfare Department, Bihar on October 24, 2013, and commenced its operations on November 1 the same year. According to its records, altogether 471 girls have stayed there at some point of time, of which four ran away and three died.
