On Friday, the BJP targeted Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Mansarovar, where he’d be going via China. BJP’s spokesperson Sambit Patra attacked Rahul Gandhi’s trip, and wondered why the Cong president spoke in China’s ‘voice’ and called him ‘Chinese Gandhi’.

About Doklam, Rahul Gandhi had said: “I do not have details of Doklam so I cannot answer how I would have handled it differently.”

Targeting him for his remark, he wondered how Gandhi attacked the ruling dispensation without having information.

He went on to say that Rahul Gandhi had met the Chinese during the Doklam controversy. Patra said in a presser: “Rahul want India to learn decentralization of democracy from China. Why so much love for China and why he behaves as a Chinese spokesperson rather than Indian spokesperson.”

He also questioned Rahul Gandhi’s Mansarovar trip, saying: “Rahul Gandhi has left for China via Nepal. Rahul ji has an obsession for China. Why is it that Mr Gandhi always wants to get a Chinese view on everything but does not want to have an Indian perspective? Which politicians will he meet there?"

Patra said, "Why did Rahul Gandhi want the Chinese Ambassador to India to give him a ceremonial see-off at the Indira Gandhi International Airport? Why is Mr. Rahul Gandhi behaving like a Chinese spokesperson rather than an Indian spokesperson? Why is Mr Rahul Gandhi holding the brief of China across the globe? He advertises China as if he is the advertising man hired to advertise China. You are Rahul Gandhi, not Chinese Gandhi. Rahul ji has an obsession with China."

"Why is it that Mr Gandhi always wants to get a Chinese view on everything but does not want to have an Indian perspective? Which politicians will he meet there?" he added.

To this Congress’ Randeep Surjewala replied: “Why is the BJP & PM Modi so perturbed by Rahul Gandhi's trip to Kailash Mansarovar? Do they not know where Kailash Mansarovar is? Do they not know that Kailash Mansarovar is in the autonomous region of Tibet, China?”

Gandhi had desired to undertake the Yatra during Karnataka assembly elections and had announced it at the party's 'Jan Aakrosh Rally' at Ramleela maidan on April 29.

In keeping with his promise, the Congress chief is likely to travel on the night of August 31 and will be out for a few days.

The sources add that his office has already applied to the External Affairs Ministry for undertaking the pilgrimage and he is likely to travel from the Nepal route.

Gandhi, who has often talked about being a devotee of Lord Shiva, had said during the rally that the desire to undertake the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra arose when his plane plunged hundreds of feet in the air while he was travelling for poll campaign in Karnataka.

The arduous pilgrimage to Mt Kailash, considered the abode of Lord Shiva in Hindu mythology, is organised every year between June and September.

"A few days ago, we were on our way to Karnataka in an aircraft. And the aircraft suddenly came down by 8,000 ft. I thought 'gaadi gayi' (it was all over), he had said in his first public comment on the incident.

"The moment I thought that it was all over, it struck my mind that I have to go to Kailash Mansarovar. So, I would require your leave of 10-15 days after the Karnataka Assembly polls, he told the gathering at Ramlila Maidan.

On April 26, the plane carrying Gandhi and some others from Delhi to Hubballi airport in Karnataka developed a technical problem and tilted heavily on the left side. The plane dipped steeply with violent shuddering, but soon recovered and landed safely.
