Blast shatters old man's dream to see grandson out of jail

Nizamuddin, 87, longed to see his grandson out of prison and went to Delhi High Court to seek bail for him but fate had something else in store for him.

The octagenarian, the oldest victim of the Delhi High Court blast, had to pay with his life when he became victim to the terror attack while waiting to gain entry inside the court complex.

Nizamuddin, who resided in Gande Wali Gali in central Delhi's Daryaganj and was working as a Munshi in a Meerut court, was making rounds of his lawyer's office for long but his wish to see his grandson freed remained unfulfilled.

His grandson Shahnawaz was in jail in an attempt to murder case for the last two and a half years and it was his wish to see him out of prison.

Nizamuddin was asked to join them by his daughter Mumtaz, the mother of Shahnawaz who wanted his help.

"Shahnawaz's bail application was coming in the court, I was hoping that he would be able to help," said a grieving Mumtaz.

Nizammuddin had come to the high court along with his two grandsons Naeem and Mohammed Salim at 10:00 am. He was standing at senior citizen's queue was close to the counter when the blasts took place.

He was among the 11 killed in the bomb blast in the Delhi High Court this morning which also claimed the life of a 55-year-old woman Nalini Aggarwal.

The youngest among the victims was 21-year-old Amanpreet from Guru Nanakpura in South-West Delhi.
