Kobad Ghandy, a politbureau member of a banned CPI(Maoist), was today remanded in police custody for three days by a Delhi court to allow the authorities to unravel designs of the Naxal leadership.

Chief metropolitan magistrate Kaveri Baweja sent 59-year-old Ghandy to police remand till October 8 when he was produced before the court a day ahead of expiry of his judicial custody.

Ghandy told the court that he did not have any lawyer to defend him following which the CMM posted the matter for hearing after lunch. As no lawyer was present to defend the Maoist leader when he was produced post-lunch, Ghandy said he would argue his case himself.

Earlier in the day Ghandy told reporters, "I think it is exaggeration of the state that the person who writes for Maoists can be termed as big catch. Those who are working at the grass-root level can be so."
