Flood claims six more lives in Uttar Pradesh

Major rivers in Uttar Pradesh continued to be in spate despite absence of heavy rains as six more people perished in floods today taking the death toll this season to 386 in the state.

While four persons, including a child, drowned in Hardoi district, one each death was reported from Bijnore and Badaun districts in flood-related incidents, officials said.

Delhi-Dehradun National Highway was damaged at several places disrupting traffic as river Ganga continued to breach.

"So far 8.50 lakh people have been rescued from flood affected areas in 30 districts and relocated to safer places," a senior official said.

He said that 454 boats have been pressed in to service for rescue and relief operations as the flood had affected seven lakh hectare agricultural land and damaged 36,000 houses so far.

According to the Central Water Commission report, Ganga river was flowing at danger mark in Fatehgarh, Gumatia (Kannauj), Ankinghat (Kanpur dehat) and Kanpur and was rising at Ballia.

Ramganga was flowing above danger mark in Dabri (Shahjahanpur) whereas Yamuna breached at Mathura and was
rising at Agra and Etawah. Sharda was flowing at danger mark
at Pallia Kalan and Sharda Nagar (Kheri).
