It’s over, finally - those were the words of Jigna Vora after she was acquitted in journalist Jyotirmay Dey murder case today.

Speaking to DNA, Vora said that she was ‘happy to be proven innocent.’

Vora, the then deputy chief of bureau of Asian Age, was arrested on November 25, 2011, for her alleged complicity in the murder of journalist J Dey, who was Editor (Investigations) with Mid-Day.

Vora wearing lot of beads on a right hand was seen weeping in the court room soon after the acquittal.

She refused to speak anything more, and kept suggesting that ‘I don't want to talk.’

Vora was granted bail on July 27, 2016 on grounds that she has a child to look after and is a single parent and that her detention was not required in the absence of any strong argument from the prosecution for denying her the relief.

Vora was accused of instigating Dey’s murder. There were reports that months before the murder, Vora spoke to gangster Chhota Rajan for 36 times over phone.

‘Dey was far too senior and Vora far too junior for them to have any rivalry,’ serious journalist Sachin Kalbag was quoted as saying by India Today.

Apart from Vora, another journalist Paulson Joseph was also acquitted in the case.
