Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren's govt to face floor test today

The floor test for the newly-formed government in Jharkhand is scheduled for July 8 during a special session of the state Legislative Assembly. Hemant Soren, currently out on bail, was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister on Thursday. The ceremony, held at Raj Bhavan, saw Governor C P Radhakrishnan administer the oath of office and secrecy. Among those present were Soren's father, Shibu Soren, who leads the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), his mother Rupi Soren, wife Kalpana Soren, and senior leaders of the JMM-led alliance, including former CM Champai Soren who resigned the day before.

Hemant Soren was released on bail on June 28 by the Jharkhand High Court in a money laundering case related to an alleged land scam. He had resigned as CM shortly before his arrest on January 31 by the Enforcement Directorate. After taking oath, Soren praised Champai Soren for his prior service and assured commitment in discharging his duties.

In a video message, Hemant Soren acknowledged facing opposition conspiracies leading to his arrest and subsequent legal battle, which ended with his exoneration. He expressed readiness to serve Jharkhand with dedication, emphasizing his determination to uphold justice.

The composition of Hemant Soren's cabinet remains undecided, with the Congress indicating that the party's high command will determine its participation. Meanwhile, reactions from political rivals underscored divisions within the state's political landscape following recent elections and defections.
