DMK's Kathir Anand on Friday won the Lok Sabha election in Vellore in Tamil Nadu.

Anand defeated AIADMK nominee AC Shanmugham in the election which was rescinded before the General Elections in May after unaccounted cash was allegedly recovered from an office said to be that of a close associate of Anand.

There were 28 candidates in fray for the election which was held on August 5. 

With this win, the DMK has bagged 38 of 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, while one is with the AIADMK.

DMK candidate is still leading by over 8,000 votes. Counting is almost over and the final results are expected anytime soon. After trailing initially, it looks like Kathir Anand is likely to have the last laugh.

AIADMK ahead by 12,000 votes. AIADMK candidate has got 1.05 lakh votes and DMK candidate has got 93 thousand votes so far. 

Background:

The election was cancelled after recovery of money from DMK candidate’s warehouse. It was scheduled to take place on April 18. EC acted after police filed complaint against DMK candidate Kathir Anand. He was charged under the Representation of People's Act for giving wrong information.
