Manmohan Singh doesn't have cash in hand

When others take pride in possessing high-end cars, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh owns one that has a market value of just Rs21,033. Also, he has no cash in hand, unlike his wife Gursharan Kaur who possess Rs20,000.

Singh, 82, filed his nomination papers in Guwahati on Wednesday for re-election to the Rajya Sabha from Assam for the fifth consecutive term. In his affidavit, the prime minister mentioned that his total annual income is Rs 4,051,964 but he has no cash in hand. His total moveable asset --- in the form of five fixed deposits and three savings accounts in the SBI’s Central Secretariat Branch, New Delhi --- is worth Rs 38,763,188.

He also has an NSS worth Rs 82,6922 at the GPO, New Delhi. Singh mentioned that his Maruti 800 of 1996 make is presently worth Rs.21,033, approximately.

His wife possesses assets worth Rs 20,31385 that includes 150.8 gm of gold ornaments valued at Rs 34,5332. She has Rs 20,000 in hand and Rs1,662,570 in a savings account in the State Bank of Patiala, Chandigarh.

Singh owns a two-storeyed house in Chandigarh that has a built-up area of 2907.96 sq ft. He also owns 1495.53-sq ft DDA flat in Vasant Kunj. He bought them for Rs 2,408,000, the prices of which have now been shown as Rs 75,250,000.

The prime minister, however, showed himself as a resident of House No 3989 in Guwahati’s Sarumataria locality. The house was rented to him by former Assam chief minister Hiteswar Saikia to justify his nomination tothe Rajya Sabha. Singh pays a rent of Rs 700 per month to Saikia’s wife Hemo Prabha Saikia.
