In what can be termed as an historic development, the New Civil Hospital in Surat has signed an MoU with a US university for conducting research and experiments on HIV and AIDS virus. As per the MoU, the researchers of the US varsity will study the disease pattern on the patients of the hospital. Apart from gaining knowledge, the MoU will help HIV and AIDS patients in getting advance treatment.

The MoU has been signed between Government Medical College (New Civil Hospital) and American University of South Florida. The MoU has been signed for three years for getting new medicinal codes and results of newly developed treatment techniques. It will help in understanding the smallest implications on human body due to HIV and AIDS and will provide a solution to those who suffer from multiple health problems apart from HIV.

"University of South Florida has a good team of researchers and scientists working on HIV and AIDS. They have gained ample amount of knowledge during research and want to share the same with us by treating our patients. Their guidance will help us in providing quality treatment to our patients," MK Wadhel, superintendent of the New Civil Hospital, said.

Wadhel added that the team of Florida University will also guide doctors handling HIV patients at the New Civil Hospital. 7,500 HIV patients have been registered in Surat, out of which 3,500 are being treated at the New Civil Hospital. With the increasing number of patients in the city, it is important to deliver good quality and effective treatment to the patients.

Based on the MoU, a team of doctors visited the New Civil Hospital on Wednesday where they held discussions with doctors in ART department. The team provided training to 50 doctors and specialists, working in various departments of the hospital.
