The government has announced a series of initiatives within the country and abroad to mark the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. It includes installation of a high-powered telescope for the devotees to see Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said on Monday.
A national institute of faith studies will also be set up in Punjab by the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (HRD) and international seminars will be conducted.
The Narendra Modi government has asked Indian missions to organise activities; commemorative coin and postage stamp will also be released, the Home Ministry announced on Monday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has constituted a National Implementation Committee (NIC) for programmes to be held to commemorate Guru Nanak on his 550th birthday. The committee will be chaired by the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma as members.
"The National Implementation Committee for Commemoration of the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev has held three meetings under the Chairmanship of the Union Home Minister. The third meeting held on November 8, 2018, was attended by Union Minister of State for Culture Mahesh Sharma, Governor of Punjab VP Singh Badnore, Minister of State for Electronics & IT SS Ahluwalia, Minister of Tourism in Punjab Navjot Singh Sidhu, among others," a statement from the MHA said.

Religious activities like kirtan, katha, prabhat pheri, and langar will be organised throughout the year both at national and international level. Educational activities such as seminars, workshops and lectures will be organised throughout the country by Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Doordarshan will arrange live telecast programmes on Guru Nanak Dev and the Gurubani. Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha Secretariats will be requested to consider telecasting the same through Rajya Sabha TV and Lok Sabha TV, respectively.
