Pakistan army resorted to heavy artillery shelling on the Indian forward positions and civilian areas along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati and Keri sectors in the Pir Panjal valley of Jammu division on Sunday.

The unprovoked ceasefire violation started at 11 am. Later the Pakistani army changed gears and resorted to artillery shelling along the LoC. There was, however, no loss of life or property.

"At about 1100 hours, Pakistan initiated ceasefire violation by shelling with artillery and firing of small arms along LoC in Krishna Ghati Sector of Poonch district and Keri Sector of Rajouri district," said Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand, defence spokesman at Jammu.

Troops guarding the LOC immediately swung into action and responded in equal measure to silence the Pakistani guns. "Indian Army is retaliating befittingly," said Lieutenant Colonel Anand.

The fresh spell of ceasefire-violation by Pakistan started on Thursday, a day after it suffered the worst diplomatic setback at the UN when China lifted its hold and Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Moulana Masood Azhar was declared a global terrorist

Seven civilians, including two women and a BSF inspector, have been killed and dozens others injured in the cross border shelling by Pakistan army on the Indian positions and civilian areas since the Indian Air Force carried out air-strikes on Jaish-e-Mohammmed terror camps at Balakote in February. More than 513 ceasefire violations have been carried out by the Pakistan army in the last two-and-a-half months

Official figures reveal that Pakistan carried out 1,599 ceasefire violations (CFV) along the LoC in which 20 security force personnel were killed in 2018. More than 109 people including 35 army soldiers and 21 BSF personnel were killed, while 565 people were injured, including 302 civilians and 263 security force personnel, in cross border firing from January 2016 to July 2018.
