The CPI(M) in Kerala today denied reports in a section of the media suggesting that the party's views on developmental matters were different from that of chief minister VS Achuthanandan.

In a statement here, CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan alleged that the media misinterpreted his speech at the international congress on Kerala studies here recently where he referred to speedy clearances for industrial ventures in other states and the bureaucratic delay in Kerala.

"When I mentioned this, I was referring to Tamil Nadu, though I did not specify the state's name. This was twisted by media which reported that I was backing Gujarat model of development," he said.

Condemning the reports linking his remarks with chief minister V S Achuthanandan's speech yesterday in Thrissur where the latter said 'Gujarat model of development' would not be replicated in the state, Vijayan said a section of the media was trying to create the impression that chief minister had a view different from that of the party.

"Everyone knows that a Communist cannot support a government like that of Modi, whose regime is posing grave threat to the lives and property of minorities," he said.

In the Kerala study congress, Vijayan said he had only expressed the view that there should be a more effective bureaucracy in the state and red tapism should be checked. Even the single window system introduced by the previous LDF government had not worked well, Vijayan said.

While inaugurating the second phase of development of Infopark at Thrissur yesterday, Achuthanandan had said that Gujarat model of development could not be adopted in Kerala and that the state's precious land would not be given away to real estate dealers in the name of development.

He had also said that development causing harm to the environment also would not be allowed.
