Sheena Bora murder: After collecting evidence, Rahul Mukerjea patiently waited for investigation

Rahul Mukerjea, the elder son of arrested media baron Peter Mukerjea, had been "collecting evidence" against his father and Indrani Mukerjea, the mother of deceased Sheena Bora, after the 25-year-old went 'missing' in April of 2012. Sources in the CBI said that during interactions with investigators of the agency, Rahul had confessed that he had never believed the theory put forth by his father and Indrani that Sheena had "left him to move on with life". Officials added that it was, in fact, Rahul who had handed over the evidence to the CBI and even had hoped for a probe agency or police force to look into the matter for three years before finally Mumbai police blew the lid off the murder.

Officials of Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday told dna, that after Sheena's sudden disappearance, Rahul had become anxious as the duo had been in a relationship and had plans to marry as well. Sources said that a day after Sheena Bora disappeared, Rahul made the first call to his father. "There were a number of calls made by Mr Rahul Mukerjea. He started recording the conversations after Sheena's colleagues came to him to know about her whereabouts. He found out through them that Sheena was a diligent and responsible employee and would never disappear from office without informing her superiors or colleagues," an official source told dna on Friday.

Agency officials also said that 18 conversations recorded by Rahul were saved and meticulously stored in his phones as well as personal laptop. "We are not aware if the conversations were handed over to the Mumbai police, but we had received them during the course of investigation and have submitted the same to the court,"said a senior CBI official. The conversations which were leaked this week have put Peter Mukherjea in the dock as he had maintained that he was unaware of Sheena's fate. The tapes now indicate that there was an attempt to cover up the Sheena murder case.

The agency on Friday clarified that all the taped conversations between Indrani, Peter and his son Rahul being played out in the media, have been taken into account during the investigation and have also been submitted in the court. “All the tapes being played on certain channels on the Sheena Bora murder case have been taken into account during the CBI investigation. These form an integral part of the evidence against Peter Mukherjea and others and have already been submitted in the court. The matter is sub-judice,” said the investigative agency in a statement.

In April 2012, Sheena was allegedly picked up by her mother, Indrani, who at that time was still posing as her sister, on a busy road in Mumbai's Bandra. The 25-year-old was then allegedly murdered with the help of Indrani's ex-husband and driver. Three years later, the police found the remains of her charred body in a forest on the outskirts of Mumbai which first led to the arrest of Indrani followed by those accused of aiding the murder. Her husband Peter was arrested by the CBI after it took over the case from Mumbai police.
