Samajwadi Party asks Mayawati to resign if she can't ensure safety of women in Uttar Pradesh

Samajwadi Party today expressed concern over rise in crimes against women in Uttar Pradesh despite a woman chief minister and asked Mayawati to resign if she could not ensure their safety.

"It is most unfortunate that women are being subjected to all kinds of crimes in Uttar Pradesh which has a lady as the chief minister and if she is not able to extend security to them she should immediately resign from the post", leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha and senior SP leader Shivpal Singh Yadav told newspersons here.

Referring to the recent cases of rape of minor girls in Kanpur and Banda, where a ruling BSP MLA has been accused of the crime, Yadav alleged that instead of taking action against the guilty, every effort has been made to protect the MLA by the officials.

Demanding immediate arrest of the MLA, Purushottam Naresh Dwivedi, Yadav said that action should also be taken against the officials of Banda who tried their best to intimidate the rape victim to change her statement.

Yadav also trained his guns on Mayawati for the huge funds allegedly spent over her lavish birthday celebrations on January 15 every year and demanded a CBI probe into the waste of money.

Yadav claimed that celebrations for the birthday have already got underway with lavish parties being hosted in the state capital.

The SP leader also criticised state government officials like Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh, DGP Karamvir Singh and ADG law and order Brij Lal accusing them of issuing statements to save BSP leaders in criminal cases and acting as party agents.
