Shocking! Nurse injects woman with two shots of COVID-19 vaccine in one go

India’s COVID-19 vaccination drive is in full swing and as the government opened the vaccine for everybody above the 45 years of age from April 1, this recent incident from Uttar Pradesh will shock you.

A 48-year-old woman was administered two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine at a healthcare centre in the state’s Kanpur Dehat district on Friday (April 2).

The Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) from the Madauli Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) iin the Akbarbarpur area was on a call with someone and completely forgot that she had already injected Kamlesh Devi and proceeded to inject the her with another shot, said a complaint filed by receipt to the district officials.

As per medical protocol, the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is to be administered four to eight weeks after the first jab is given.

A three member team has been formed by District Magistrate JP Singh to investigate the blunder that took place at Madauli Primary Healthcare Centre.

According to her husband Kamlesh Kumar, Devi’s health condition is stable as of now. Her right arm is swollen, this being a usual symptom after vaccination. She is currently under observation at her residence in Madauli, he said.

Currently, India has approved two COVID-19 vaccines to be administered to people, Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Covishield.
