Slain Sonia wanted sex change operation: Ahmedabad police

On Wednesday, the Karanj police continued their investigation of eunuch leader Sonia De's murder. The cops are still on the look-out for reliable leads for the motive, and the person/s behind the killing. However, the police have found evidence that suggests Sonia was supposed to travel outside the country to get a sex change operation.

According to Karanj police inspector KS Savani, the police found a passport as well as a visa to travel abroad, from Sonia's residence on Wednesday. After probing people close to her, the police stated that Sonia had expressed interest to undergo a sex change operation.

Meanwhile, the city cops are gearing up to send teams to two major cities outside the state to probe Sonia's involvement in two cases there.

"Sonia had raised an alarm after the fire at a convention in New Delhi 15 where eunuchs were killed and 31 others were injured. The incident took place a few days before her murder," said Savani, who believes that Sonia's comments after the incident might have 'fuelled another fire'.

"She also had had an altercation with a gang of eunuchs in Mumbai. So we will send a team there as well to probe the matter further," he informed.

On Wednesday, zone-2 DCP, Harekrishna Patel, took statements of many people close to the eunuch leader as well as her husband Yusuf Jaam, and Zaheer Rana along statements of  other eunuch leaders who are competing for the 'crown' of the community in the city. 

The police had on Tuesday opened two bank lockers belonging to Sonia and found some documents including a card to a finance company. The cops visited the finance company on Wednesday and found that Sonia had taken a loan of Rs5 lakh from them against surety of 30 tolas of gold jewellery belonging to her.

However, the cops are yet to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder as well as the identity of the shooter, who is reported to have used an imported pistol to carry out the assault on Sonia, Savani informed.
