Supreme Court moved for 'foolproof' security for court premises

In the light of the bomb explosion at the Delhi High Court, an advocate today approached the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the Centre and all state governments to provide "foolproof" security at all court premises.

Advocate Ajay Agrawal, an eyewitness to yesterday's blast, pleaded CCTV cameras and other necessary gadgets need to be installed in and around court premises as the judicial institutions are being increasingly targeted by terrorists and anti-social elements.

"Direct the respondents (governments)to immediately take steps to ensure appropriate security installation of CCTV camera and other necessary gadgets in all the courts," he said in his petition.

He also said CCTV camera was not installed in the High Court despite several recommendations and that the erring officers must be punished for their "negligence".

"Direct the Centre and Delhi government to take appropriate action against the erring and negligent officers for not installing the CCTV camera for the last three years despite there being strong recommendation to do so and even after the May 25, 2011, blast in the Court," the petition said.

He said courts in other states have also been targeted and there is a need to direct all state governments to provide "foolproof" security.
