Mamata Banerjee incident: TMC leader Madan Mitra makes this provocative remark

Referring to the injuries suffered by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram on Wednesday, Trinamool Congress leader Madan Mitra on Thursday said that if such an incident would have happened in Gujarat, riots like the ones at Godhra in 2002, would have taken place. He also demanded that the new DG P Nirajnayan be removed. 

"Few people pushed me when I was near my car. I suffered an injury in my leg," Banerjee had told ANI on Wednesday. Earlier, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee filed her nomination from Nandigram seat for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state. Following this, she visited the Durga Mandir in Shibrampur village.

"Not even one Police official was present. 4-5 people intentionally manhandled me in presence of public. No local police present during program not even SP. It was definitely a conspiracy. There were no police officials for 4-5 hrs in such huge public gathering" said Mamata.

Mamata Banerjee was taken to SSKM Hospital for treatment, where Governor Jaydeep Dhankhar visited her. 

In the video message, West Bengal CM can be seen urging people, party workers to be calm and exercise restraint. She also said she will not be affecting her election work for the injury but will have to remain wheel-chair-bound for some time.

She said, "I request everybody to maintain peace and refrain from doing anything that can cause inconvenience to anybody. I will resume work in the next 2-3 days"."

"I sustained injuries in hand, leg, and ligament. I was standing near the car when I was pushed against it, yesterday. I am on medication and will soon leave from Kolkata," she added.

West Bengal will witness eight-phased Assembly polls beginning March 27. The tenure of the 16th Legislative Assembly of West Bengal will end on May 30 this year. A total of 7,34,07,832 voters will choose their representative for the 17th Legislative Assembly of West Bengal.
