One more woman died of swine flu in Surat on Saturday, while Vadodara also witnessed one more death due to the deadly disease on the same day taking death toll in both the cities to four each. With this two new deaths, the total number of H1N1 death in the state rose to 17.

According to available information, Kailash Desai, a resident of Vihan village in Kamrej taluka of Surat district, was admitted to New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat on Thursday. She was suffering from cough, high fever and also having breathing problems since last one week. Fearing swine flu, her blood sample was sent to  Ahmedabad for testing and the results tested positive. But, before doctors could start treatment, she died at the hospital.

This is the fourth H1N1 death in Surat. Earlier 3 women from Adajan, Kim and Bardoli also died of the disease. Surprisingly, all the three patients from Surat, to die of swine flu, are women.

Three more suspected swine flu patients areunder treatment at the hospital, while two others have been admitted to SMIMER hospital. One suspected patient has also been admitted to Mahavir hospital on Saturday.

In Vadodara, a 34-year-old male, who was a resident of Karjan town, also died of swine flu on Saturday evening at SSG hospital. The diseased Paresh Kantibhai Patel was working at a private company near Karjan.  According to the SSG hospital authorities, he was admitted to the hospital in critical condition on Wednesday evening. He was suffering from pneumonia and was diagnosed H1N1 on Thursday.

Talking to DNA, medical supdt of the hospital, Dr AK Saxena said, “Condition of the patient worsened on Friday. The cause of death was pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome.”
