Two soldiers lost their lives and four terrorists were gunned down by security forces in separate encounters with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district, defence officials said on Sunday. According to officials, two separate encounters broke out in Kulgam district on Saturday and were ongoing. 

The first gunfight took place in Modergam village of the south Kashmir district after security forces launched a cordon and search operation there following specific inputs about the presence of terrorists, the officials said. 

The terrorists opened fire at the security forces and an encounter broke out. The officials said a soldier of the Indian Army sustained fatal injuries in the exchange of fire.

The second incident occurred in the Frisal Chinnigam area, when security reported making touch with terrorists while conducting a cordon and search. According to the officials, four terrorists have been killed in the gunfight, the officials said, adding their bodies have been sighted.

“Police and security forces are on job. Further details shall follow,” Kashmir Zone Police said in a post on X.

Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a 'spike' in the number of terrorist attacks in the past few months. In June, three terrorists were neutralized in an encounter with security forces in the Gandoh, Bhaderwah sector of district Doda in Jammu and Kashmir, ADGP Anand Jain had said.
