Was honour killing the motive behind Indrani Mukerjea's alleged murder of her 'daughter'?

In a sensational twist to the Sheena Bohra murder case, fresh evidence suggests that the accused, Indrani Mukerjea, was possibly the mother of Bohra. The angle of honour killing has also emerged courtesy a statement given by ex-Star TV honcho and Indrani's husband Peter Mukerjea.  

A senior officer of Mumbai Police, on the condition of anonymity, confirmed to dna that they have received call from an unknown person claiming that Bohra was indeed Indrani's daughter and had studied in Guwahati till class 12. 

Meanwhile, speaking to CNN IBN, Sheena Bohra's brother Mikhail confirmed that Indrani was indeed their mother. He said that since 2012 Indrani Mukerjea had always told him that Sheena was working in the US and was doing well. Mikhail told the channel that he was brought up in Guwahati by his maternal grandparents. He said that Indrani first contacted them in 2004. 

According to Mikhail, despite repeated pleas to Indrani asking for Sheena's contact number, he was never given one. Mikhail alleged that Indrani even threatened to cut off funds if he probed her too hard. On the other hand, Peter Mukerjea told CNN IBN that Sheena had a relationship with Mukerjea's son from an earlier marriage and Indrani disapproved of it. This has led to speculation of whether the entire murder mystery is a case of honour killing or not. However, Mikhail has refused to confirm any of these allegations and maintained that truth will come out after August 31. Indrani has been remanded to police custody till Monday.

Peter Mukerjea, however, has said that he was unaware if Sheena was indeed Indrani's daughter or not. He said that he hardly knows anyone from Indrani's family and that even their marriage was attended by only one person from his wife's side. 

Khar police on Tuesday arrested Indrani Mukerjea and her driver, Shyam Rai, in connection with the murder of Sheena Bohra that took place three years ago. Police sources claimed that Indrani, with the help of Rai, had allegedly murdered Sheena and disposed off her body in Raigad.

"Recently, an informant told us that he has some leads about the case, wherein Sheena's body was found in Raigad. We first called Rai for questioning and during  questioning, he revealed the name of Indrani. Rai also told the police as to how and when the murder was committed and how and where the body was disposed. We then  called Indrani for questioning. During the questioning they admitted murdering Sheena, disposing her body in Raigad and then fleeing from there," said an officer from  Khar police station.

According to the police, Sheena was a Khar resident and was murdered in 2012. Her body was found by the local police in Raigad and a case of accidental death was registered in this regard. The Khar police were also conducting a parallel probe into the matter. Following the revelation made by Indrani and Rai, they were produced before the metropolitan magistrate court in Bandra on Tuesday, which remanded them in police custody till August 31.
