Lakhbir Singh Landa hails from Tarn Taran district of Punjab. He supervises the smuggling of weapons and IEDs from Pakistan to India.
The Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa was classified as a terrorist by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on Friday.
According to the MHA, the 33-year-old is a member of the Khalistani organization Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and was responsible for previous terrorist acts in addition to the 2021 rocket attack on the Punjab Police Intelligence Headquarters in Mohali.
Hailing from the Tarn Taran district of Punjab, Landa migrated to Canada in 2017. He is thought to be close to mobster Harvinder Singh, also known as Rinda, who is located in Pakistan and has teamed up with the BKI.
Landa supervises the smuggling of weapons and IEDs from Pakistan into India. Additionally, he is accused of placing an IED under the Amritsar police sub-inspector's vehicle.
In addition, Landa had close ties to pro-Khalistan elements (PKEs) based in Canada, including Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice and the late Hardeep Singh Nijjar of the Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF), among others, according to a notification released by MHA.
MHA stated: “Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, presently residing in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada belongs to Babbar Khalsa International. Landa backed by cross border agency was involved in the terror attack through shoulder mounted Rocket Propelled Grenade on the building of Punjab State Intelligence Headquarter at Mohali and has been involved in supply of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), arms, sophisticated weapons, explosives from across the border to various modules for carrying out terrorist activities in the Punjab.”
"The Central government believes that Landa is involved in terrorism and he is to be added as a terrorist,” it continued.
In 2021, NIA published a lookout notice against Landa and announced a reward for him.
