IPL 2021: Another blow to RCB as all-rounder Daniel Sams tests positive for COVID-19 in middle of quarantine

Australian all-rounder, who will be plying his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday in the latest round of testing while he still was in the middle of his mandatory 7-day quarantine after arrival in India.
Sams, who was traded to the RCB from the Delhi Capitals arrived in Chennai on April 3 and checked into the team hotel after testing negative. However, he returned with a positive report on Wednesday in the second round of testing for coronavirus.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, the Bangalore franchise said, "Daniel Sams checked into the team hotel in Chennai on April 3rd, with a negative COVID report on arrival. His report from the 2nd test on 7th April came positive. Sams is currently asymptomatic and he is currently in isolation at a designated medical facility.
"Royal Challengers Bangalore medical team is in constant touch with Daniel Sams and continue to monitor his health and abide by the BCCI protocols," the statement added.

Sams was the second RCB player to have tested positive even before the start of the IPL 2021 after the left-handed opening batsman Devdutt Padikkal. Padikkal has tested negative in the latest round of testing,
RCB will begin their campaign against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the tournament opener on April 9 in Chennai.
