Rajasthan: Absence of Congress gives BJP another blow, no-confidence move rejected

BJP got one more political jolt on Wednesday, a day after losing the race of mayorship of Jaipur on Tuesday. BJP supported a no-confidence motion in Zila Parishad could not be voted for the lack of quorum and got rejected on Wednesday. Zila Pramukh Mool Chand Meena will continue to remain on his post after this development. 

Earlier, since the morning hours itself, BJP members were trying hard to get the voting done. The BJP members reached the Zila Parishad and got their registrations done and then went to the meeting hall to take part in the meeting. 

The meeting was scheduled to begin from 11 am. Everybody was waiting for the Congress members to come. Sources informed that there was no response from the Congress members and they didn’t even reach for the meeting. Till the time limit, registration of merely 28 members was done.

By 1 noon, the situation became clear that the requisite quorum of 39 members was not there for the meeting which was compulsory. BJP had tried hard that the Congress members, who the BJP’s leaders had been claiming were in support of no confidence come, however, none of the Congress members came.

During the morning hours itself, Congress had called all its Zila Parishad members in PCC office and issued a whip of not taking part in the meeting. By mistake, one or two members came to Zila Parishad but as soon as they realized that nobody from Congress was present there, they also left.

As such, since the BJP could not muster the magical figure of 39 members needed for voting, the no-confidence was rejected even before the voting. The total strength of Zila Parishad is of 51 members and out of these, BJP has 26 members. Notably, BJP had 27 members but Zila Pramukh Mool Chand Meena had switched to Congress in October 2018. Congress now has 22 members while there are 2 independent members.

The trouble started when Zila Pramukh Meena, who was in BJP switched to Congress in the month of October last year and since then, the board which comprises mainly of BJP has been upset.
