Canadian rock singer and musician Bryan Adams, who is currently touring the country, thinks that Indian musicians have the best of both worlds. Bryan says that he has not met many Indian musicians but feels that “AR Rahman is doing amazing work — he’s incredible! India has had some amazing international stars like Freddie Mercury from Queen being from an Indian heritage and, of course, (Pandit) Ravi Shankar. It seems to be Indian musicians have the best of both worlds — being able to draw on the melodies of Indian music yet having access to the West as well,” says.

The singer, who’ll be “playing in a different city practically every day for a week,” this time, says that he likes music for more reasons than his fans could imagine. “This is one of the exciting things about music —  getting to see the world!” says Bryan who will play in the city this Saturday.

So, considering that Bryan’s toured India three times before, has he noticed anything different in the country? “I am continuing to discover India and this tour is taking me and my band to places we’ve never been before, or should I say, not many bands have been,” he says. Ask him if there is any change he’d like to see brought about in the country and he says, that it is the poverty that upsets him the most.

'Summer of 69' may be one of Bryan’s most popular songs the world over but the musician says that he never thought it would go on to become such a huge hit when he was recording it. “That’s really funny,” he says adding, “I never ever thought I’d become so popular. But I’ve never been a very good judge of the songs I write! But they have gone on to have these mysterious lives of their own.”
Bryan may be 51 years of age now, but he insists that it is the mental age that eventually matters. And no prizes for guessing that the ever energetic song writer’s all time favourite number is “18 till I die — it completely sums up how I am and what I think,” he reiterates.
