An adaptation from the French novel titled The Little Prince, Jaimini Patak’s play Day I Met The Prince promises to be a thrilling visual treat. The script for the theatre production that was written by Kuo Tao Kun, considered as the father of modern Singaporean theatre, was gifted to Jaimini and his theatre group to showcase in India. The play has been adapted by Nayantara Rao to be showed on the Indian stage and includes a mind-boggling range of magic tricks that the actors themselves perform on the stage.

Writer and director Jaimini Pathak says, “We were gifted with this script during a joint theatre session with the Singapore unit. The play deals gently with issues like identity and respect for other
people’s cultures.”

Interestingly, along with magic tricks, all three actors on the stage are also singing live. The group also closely interacted with a band of magicians who taught them the tricks of the trade. Jaimini says, “We stage real magic on the stage. The entire group has trained with actually magicians.” The stage is also vibrant, with a versatile kind of box out of which all things come and go. Jaimini points out, “It’s our magic box.”

Acting, singing/performing magic is challenging, agrees Jaimini.
However, he says, “That is part of the challenge. It is nice to include challenges in our skill sets as actors.”
