0.0 : Hello and a warm welcome for the 2nd ODI between Australia and Pakistan at the MCG. The hosts have won their last 9 ODIs at this venue and are looking good to continue their dream run. It was their lower middle order that led an inspirational revival in the previous encounter after they lost half their side for just 78 runs. Matthew Wade was absolutely top class and scored an admirable century to lead the hosts to safe harbours. And their bowlers were clinical and strangled the visitors at the ' |
On the other hand, the Pakistanis are low on confidence and the injury blow to their skipper Azhar Ali, will make life even more difficult for them. They would hope their inconsistent batting puts in a much more spirited performance and backs up their penetrative bowling. The tourists need to pull their socks up and transform their nightmarish tour. Let's see who comes out on top. |

We are ready for the action. The players and the umpires have come out in the middle. DAVID WARNER and USMAN KHAWAJA to open the batting. MOHAMMAD AMIR to begin the proceedings with the ball. Here we go... |
0.1 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Starts off with a loosener, Mohammad Amir. Fires it full and too straight, on the pads and it's flicked through mid-wicket by Usman Khawaja. Three runs are taken as the fielder chases it down. Off the mark immediately. |
0.2 : M Amir to D Warner, Angles in a length ball, once again it's a bit too straight and there isn't much movement on it, David Warner closes the face of the bat a little too early as he gets a leading edge back down the track. |
0.3 : M Amir to D Warner, Just back of a length, outside off, Warner taps it away a bit square on the off side for a brisk single. |
0.4 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Loud lbw appeal but it's turned down. Angling down, catches Khawaja on the pads as he misses his attempted flick shot. There is an appeal for a leg before but it's turned down. A leg bye is taken. |
0.5 : M Amir to D Warner, Just around off, on a good length, Warner keeps it out from within his crease. |
0.6 : M Amir to D Warner, Back of a length delivery from Mohammad Amir, he pounds the deck hard at 142.5 kph, David Warner hangs back and meets it with a straight blade. |
Junaid Khan will bowl from the other end. |
1.1 : J Khan to U Khawaja, Coming in on the pads, even Junaid sprays this a little too straight, it's worked through backward square leg for a single. |
1.2 : J Khan to D Warner, FOUR! Back of a length delivery tailing in to the body, Warner looks to tickle this fine. Gets it off the glove and sends it across the fine leg fence for a boundary. |
1.3 : J Khan to D Warner, Spears in another one on the pads, needs to get the line right here. David Warner works this through backward square leg and picks up a couple of runs for doing so. |
1.4 : J Khan to D Warner, Short of a length, kept out off the back foot and into the track. |
1.5 : J Khan to D Warner, Another one on the shorter side, outside off this time, it's tapped in front of cover-point for no run. |
1.6 : J Khan to D Warner, Wide! Going down the leg side, wide called by the umpire. |
J Khan to D Warner, On a good length and just around that off stump, it's pushed to the cover region. It's straight to the fielder so no run is taken. |
2.1 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Amir finally gets his line right. He bowls this on a length outside off, Usman Khawaja leans forward and pushes it to covers. |
2.2 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Excellent line. Beautiful. Great length delivery in the channel outside off, Usman Khawaja makes a good leave to it. |
2.3 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Good timing. Khawaja leans into this fullish ball and flicks it through mid-wicket for three runs. Brought that bottom hand into play and worked it away neatly. |
2.4 : M Amir to D Warner, Good length ball aiming the top of off stump, David Warner taps it in front of covers and instantly sets off for the single. He's lightning between the wicket and he completes the single comfortably. |
2.5 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Full delivery around off, Usman drives it straight back to Amir. The pacer collects the ball and fakes a throw at the striker's end. Some healthy aggression, it's good to see. |
2.6 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Pitched just ahead of a length, around off, stays right behind the line and blocks it out to end the over. |
3.1 : J Khan to D Warner, Absolute Jaffa from Junaid Khan! At a decent pace he gets this one to come in sharply. There's a lot of movement on that one and it raps Warner high on the thigh pad. He's beaten all ends up and can't do anything about it. Luckily for him though, height was an issue and hence the umpire remains unmoved to the lbw appeals. |
3.2 : J Khan to D Warner, Another loud leg before shout! But the impact was way outside off. Warner comes down the track and attempts to play it back out. He is once again caught on the pads but is safe. Junaid Khan turns behind to appeal, is almost ecstatic as the umpire is raising his hand, but much to his dismay, watches him scratch his head. Bill Lawry on air goes bonkers at the sight. |

4.5 : M Amir to U Khawaja, Good running between the wickets once more. Usman Khawaja pushes this towards mid on and scampers to the other end to complete the run. |
4.6 : M Amir to D Warner, Back of a length outside off, dabbed away with an open-faced blade behind square on the off side. The placement is good as two more runs are taken by the Aussie opening pair. |
5.1 : J Khan to U Khawaja, Fuller length ball around off, Khawaja shuffles across and works it nonchalantly through mid-wicket for a single. |
5.2 : J Khan to D Warner, A loud appeal for caught behind turned down! Bowls a shortish delivery well outside off, Warner looks to steer it square through the off side but seems to have missed it. The Pakistanis go up in a huge appeal but the umpire shakes his head. Hafeez thinks about the review after consulting with his teammates but decides against it. Replays show that there was clear daylight between bat and ball. Good decision by the umpire! |

5.5 : J Khan to D Warner, OUT! Junaid strikes! That's a big, big wicket! Warner was looking scratchy in the middle and his uncomfortable stay at the crease comes to an end. Bowls a back of a length delivery outside off, shapes away after pitching. Warner looks to run it down to third man but ends up getting a faint nick. Rizwan behind the stumps moves to his left and completes a regulation catch. Good start for the Pakistanis. |

7.5 : J Khan to U Khawaja, Good length delivery bowled outside off, it's hit away towards cover-point. Dot ball. |
An appeal for a catch against Usman Khawaja has been referred upstairs. The Pakistanis are celebrating but Khawaja is standing his ground. |
7.6 : J Khan to U Khawaja, OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Good catch in the end from Sharjeel Khan. Excellently bowled in that off stump channel, on a back of a length, Khawaja plays at it from inside his crease and gets a healthy edge. It goes behind to Sharjeel at first slip who gets low to his left and takes it. Khawaja is still standing there, doubting whether the catch is taken cleanly or not. 9.1 : J Khan to S Smith, FOUR! That's a wonderful shot. Everything about it was perfect. Back of a length outside off, Steven Smith rocks onto his back foot and punches it back past mid off. No chance for the fielder to stop that as the ball rockets away to the fence. |

A brilliant, brilliant performance from the Pakistan bowling unit. They were on it right from the start and never really looked back from there. All started with Junaid Khan, who was Pakistan's best bowler today, as he struck early with two wickets. Then, after that, others played their part. The spinners came in and clogged the runs, piling the pressure on and the wickets came eventually. It was a collective performance which was backed by the fielding today as well. |
Australia will be highly disappointed with themselves. Barring Steven Smith, who completed his fifty, nobody really hung around long enough to make the most of the starts they got. Half of them threw their wickets away to poor shots like they did at the Gabba and they paid the price for it. Matthew Wade stitched a 65-run stand with his skipper, but that was about anything notable in this Aussie innings, which speaks volumes about it. |
So, the visitors need 221 runs to win this game. The total on the board is a bit low but the wicket is two-paced and some explosive bowling could change the complexion of things. A good start for Pakistan is key. Join us in a short while for the run chase. |

That's it, the long wait for Pakistan comes to an end. They have broken the drought after almost 12 years and have cruised to a comfortable victory against Australia as they have leveled the series 1-1. The steady and crucial 68-run opening stand between Sharjeel and Hafeez set it up nicely for the visitors and the rest cashed in to see them through at the end. Hafeez played a terrific knock today and led by example to score a patient 72. The hosts would be ruing the fact that they dropped him f |

Mentions that they love the Pakistani crowd and they love them too. Says that they have won this for Pakistan. |
So that completes our formalities for this match. The series has become more interesting now and Pakistan have bounced back hard after having a nightmarish tour so far. They would look to repeat the tale of MCG but they would have to deal against a charged up Australian side. The third ODI is set to take place at the WACA, Perth on 19th of January at 0850 IST (0320 GMT). We have a cracker of a contest on our hands, do join us for that.
