Mumbai, on the other hand, have lost a few quick wickets but they won't be too worried as they have a deep batting line up and they have Rohit Sharma and last match's hero Ishan Kishan out there. Krishnappa Gowtham will bowl now for Punjab. |
9.4 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Ishan Kishan, A single now as this is worked towards mid-wicket. |
A run out appeal has been taken upstairs! Rohit seems in. |

13.1 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Ishan Kishan, OUT! TAKEN! There goes the struggling Kishan! Also, this wicket could well be a blessing in disguise for Mumbai as Kishan was not at all playing fluently. The change to get back Gowtham works. He fires it full and on middle, Kishan brings out the slog sweep but due to it being very full, he fails to get the elevation. He holes out to Nair in the deep. |
13.2 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Rohit Sharma, On middle, this is pushed down to long off for one. |
0.0 : Kieron Pollard walks out to bat! |

14.6 : Ravi Bishnoi to Rohit Sharma, A dot to end the over as Rohit works this towards the cover region. A good over for Mumbai as they collect 15 runs off it and they will want more of these in the upcoming five overs! |
0.0 : Ravi Bishnoi is back! |
15.1 : James Neesham to Kieron Pollard, Shorter and angled into the body, it is worked through square leg for one. |
15.2 : James Neesham to Rohit Sharma, FOUR! A very innovative way to get your fifty up! A very good innings. He needed to fire today. His side was in a spot of bother and he does. Also, he has gone about slowly till now but we all know he can explode when needed. He looks to play the paddle scoop. He is served a full toss. It is hit towards fine leg for a boundary. |
15.3 : James Neesham to Rohit Sharma, FOUR! Another full toss and put away once again! Just an orthodox cricket shot. It is a full toss outside off, Sharma says thank you very much as he caresses it past the diving cover fielder for a boundary. |
15.4 : James Neesham to Rohit Sharma, SIX! KABOOM! This is the over Mumbai needed. This is the over which probably changes the momentum. Also, this is a poor ball to Sharma. He loves it short. He rocks back and pulls it well over the square leg fence for a biggie. |
15.5 : James Neesham to Rohit Sharma, SIX! Wow! Just wow! Rohit Sharma, what a player, what a pleasure it is to watch him when he plays shots like these. So nonchalant. There is no one in the deep on the off side so he just clears his front leg. Gets a full ball on middle, it is lofted over covers and it goes all the way. |
15.6 : James Neesham to Rohit Sharma, Just a single to end but 22 from the over! Fuller and on middle, this is whipped through mid-wicket for one. |
Strategic Time-out! It looked like Punjab were in control of this game in the first half of the innings but with players like Rohit Sharma and Pollard in their squad, you can never write off Mumbai and this previous over is just a great example of what damage these two can do. They look like they have decided to turn it on and play some big strokes to end their innings on a high. A 160 or 170 run total looks acheivable and the bowlers of Punjab will really have to step it up if they are to stop |
16.1 : Mohammed Shami to Rohit Sharma, OUT! That is a legal catch and Rohit Sharma is out of here! It is Neesham who takes the catch in the end but it is Maxwell who should be given all the credit! Also, Shami gets the big fish and at the right time as Rohit was just starting to unleash. This though was in the slot! It is fuller and on middle, Rohit looks to loft it down the ground towards the long off fence but fails to time it nicely. Maxwell runs to his right, he looks to take it but it almost |
0.0 : The third umpire is called into play as the on-field umpires want to make sure that this is a clean catch. Replays roll in and it is clear that this is a clean catch and the dangerous Hit-man Rohit Sharma will have to walk back to the pavilion now. |

0.0 : Hardik Pandya will walk out now to bat for Mumbai, replacing Rohit Sharma. |
16.3 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, A single now as Pollard guides this down to third man. |
16.4 : Mohammed Shami to Hardik Pandya, Pandya is off the mark as he pushes this short ball through covers. |
16.5 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, Looks to bowl the slower one but it is down the leg side. Wided. |
Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, Two! Fuller and outside off, Pollard lofts it over covers and takes two. The fielder did well to run to his right and stop it with a dive. |
Kieron Pollard decides to take the review as he thinks he has edged this into the pads. The third umpire comes into play. UltraEdge rolls in and there is a clear spike as the ball passes by the bat. The umpire reverses his decision and Pollard stays on. |
17.2 : James Neesham to Hardik Pandya, A slower back of a length delivery outside off this time, Pandya lofts this one over the cover region and the batters will collect a couple before the fielder in the deep cleans this up. |
17.3 : James Neesham to Hardik Pandya, FOUR! Another boundary for Pandya and Mumbai! This is played really well! Neesham goes back of a length outside off again, Pandya smacks this one over the cover region again and this time it will cross the ropes to fetch them four runs. |
17.4 : James Neesham to Hardik Pandya, FOUR! No need to run for that as this will run away past the ropes! Good length ball around the off stump, Pandya creams this one hard through the cover region and it is too wide of the fielder at long off to cut it off as it crosses the fence. What an over so far for Mumbai! |
17.5 : James Neesham to Hardik Pandya, A full toss around middle, Pandya flicks this off the back foot towards the square leg region to run across for the single. |
17.6 : James Neesham to Kieron Pollard, Another single to end the over as Pollard plays this towards the fielder at deep square leg to retain the strike for the next over. Great over as they collect 18 runs off it! |
18.1 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, Well bowled! Very full and on middle, this is whipped down to long on for one. Not a lot you can do with that ball. |
18.2 : Mohammed Shami to Hardik Pandya, FOUR! That is poor with third man up! You just don't expect this from Shami. It is short and outside off, Shami slashes at it. It goes off the outside edge and over short third man for a boundary. |
18.3 : Mohammed Shami to Hardik Pandya, Goes back to bowling full and outside off, Pandya can only hit it down to long on for one. |
18.4 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, WIDE! A slower one but it is well wide outside off. Pollard does go after it but misses. |
Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, EDGY FOUR! Full marks to the bowler but runs to the batter! Fuller and outside off, Pollard swings at it with all his might. It goes off the outside edge and flies past short third man. Not sure if seam-up is the right way to go with this field. |
18.5 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, FOUR! Goes pace off but the length is very poor! It is short and asking to be hit. Pollard smashes it through mid-wicket and the ball races away to the fence. Third boundary in the over. |
18.6 : Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, FOUR! 4th boundary in the over and it is a very expensive one from Shami to end his spell! All of a sudden above 180 looks easily possible. It is a full toss, he misses the yorker and Pollard whips it throgh backward square leg. |
Mohammed Shami to Kieron Pollard, NOT OUT! There is a huge inside edge! Hence, Pollard reviewed. It is a low full toss on the pads, Pollard looks to flick but gets an inside edge onto the pads. An appeal is made by the players of Punjab. The finger goes up. Pollard reviews immediately. Replays roll in and they show that the on-field call has to be overturned. End of a brillaint over though by Shami. |
17.1 : James Neesham to Hardik Pandya, SIX! Pandya gets enough of this! This is in the slot for Pandya and he will punish you! Neesham bowls a back of a length ball around off, Pandya lofts this over the long on region and it just about crosses the fence in the deep for a six. |
Krishnappa Gowtham to Hardik Pandya, Well bowled and fielded by Goutham to start off! He goes loopy ball outside off, Pandya smacks this back to the bowler and he does well to stop this one. A dot is required at this stage for Punjab! |
19.2 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Hardik Pandya, SIX! What power and what a shot! Pandya generates some immense power and smashes this for a huge maximum. Bowls a flighted ball around off, Pandya makes some room and heaves this over the mid-wicket region for a six. That was in the air for a long time but it also has the distance required! |
19.3 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Hardik Pandya, IN THE AIR BUT SHORT! Pandya misses out as this was a full toss! He seems disappointed with himself and why not as well! Goutham misses his mark and bowls a full toss around middle, Pandya looks to smash this but it comes off his leading edge and goes towards the long on region. One run taken. |
19.4 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Kieron Pollard, SIX! Up, up and away! Pollard could be the difference between Punjab winning this game and losing it! Goutham thinks well and bowls a full ball outside off, Pollard had made some room but still manages to reach out and heave this over the bowler's head for a huge huge six! |
19.5 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Kieron Pollard, SIX! Hammered! Floats a delivery around middle and leg, Pollard gets under this one and hammers this over the deep mid-wicket fence for another biggie! This has been a good over for Mumbai! Can they finish the innings with a bang? |
19.6 : Krishnappa Gowtham to Kieron Pollard, SIX! YES, HE CAN! Pollard has been on fire today and it is because of him that Mumbai has reached a mammoth total of 191! Loopy ball on middle, Pollard swings his bat and sends the ball over long on. A hattrick of sixes! PUNJAB WILL NEED 192 RUNS TO WIN! |
What a power-batting performance from Mumbai! Never did we feel they would get above the 190-run mark when Kishan and Rohit were batting. The former was struggling to time the ball and the latter was also happy taking singles. However, that was just the calm before the storm from Rohit. Also, Kishan's wicket was probably a timely one for Mumbai, yes you read it right, timely one for the batting side as Pollard and Pandya who came after him, had no problems to strike it big. Kishan's innings thou |
It was the same story for Punjab! They were good to begin with but ended it horribly. Everybody who bowled in the death was taken to the cleaners and hence, had a poor day at the office. Only Cottrell who was done before the 15th was brilliant. He ended with an economy of less than 6 per over and also had a wicket to his name. Overall though, it was not a performance to look back at. |
The target is a big one and a lot will depend on Rahul and Agarwal! If they start well, Punjab are in this. Mumbai on the other hand, have the bowlers to defend this. They will back themselves to do so. A very good second essay awaits. |
