Match over
1.2 : 1.2: S Mahmood to M Guptill, SIX! Welcome to international cricket, Mr. Mahmood. Full and outside off, Guptill goes up and over and clears mid on!
1.6 : 1.6: S Mahmood to C Munro, SIX! Second biggie of the over! Mahmood's first over in international cricket has gone for 15. A length ball, on the pads, Munro just picks this up and sends it over deep square leg!
2.4 : 2.4: Sam Curran to C Munro, OUT! LBW! Plumb, plumb, dead plumb. Oh wait, Munro is walking across for a review chat. Why? Don't! 10 seconds, says the umpire. 5 seconds. Timed out. Terrific decision for New Zealand. Yes, New Zealand. Because they would have lost the review. Munro walked across his stumps and Curran saw that. Fired in a yorker, or just about short of one, around middle. Colin looked to flick but missed. Ball Tracker shows it to be crashing into the leg stump.
4.1 : 4.1: Pat Brown to M Guptill, FOUR! Poor bowling, lazy fielding. A length ball, down the leg side, Guptill just gets a bit of a tickle. Adil Rashid at short fine leg, does not put in a dive, preferring to give it a chase instead and warms up nicely as the ball goes all the way. A dive was needed.
4.2 : 4.2: Pat Brown to M Guptill, FOUR! And again! Help yourself. Another buffet ball, length and down the leg side, tucked well wide of Rahid this time at short fine leg.
4.4 : 4.4: Pat Brown to Tim Seifert, SIX! Terrific shot! Fractionally short outside off, Seifert pulls it high and handsome over deep mid-wicket!
5.4: C Jordan to M Guptill, DROPPED, FOUR! James Vince cannot help himself. Catches don't stick in his hand! A length ball, around middle, Guptill looks to go big and straight back. But gets more height than distance. Vince runs to his left from long on, dives full stretch but only gets a thumb to it. Deflects the ball to the fence. Great effort, poor luck.
6.1 : 6.1: S Mahmood to Tim Seifert, FOUR! BOSH! A short ball, around off, Seifert rocks back and pulls it through mid-wicket. There is a soul in the deep who races to his left, sticks his hand out with a dive but misses.
6.3 : 6.3: S Mahmood to Tim Seifert, OUT! Caught down the leg side! The debutant gets his first T20I wicket. Has gone for a bit of a stick but he will take this scalp. Full and around off, Seifert gets across to paddle but is not quite able to connect cleanly. The ball hits the toe end of the bat and flies behind to Billings who does the rest. Another flop show from Seifert.
7.5 : 7.5: A Rashid to M Guptill, SIX! BRUTAL! Fractionally short and punished. It is around off and Guptill picks the length in a trice. Rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket!
8.2 : 8.2: Pat Brown to de Grandhomme, SIX! CLOBBERED! Too easy. Half volley, right in the slot outside off. De Grandhomme swings it into oblivion at deep mid-wicket.
8.3 : 8.3: Pat Brown to de Grandhomme, SIX! And again! Full and outside off, de Grandhomme just stays still, then swings his bat, sending the ball to deep mid-wicket. The fielder races to his left and dives but in vain.
9.1 : 9.1: A Rashid to M Guptill, OUT! Caught! 'Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!' That last word is a groan that escaped Martin Guptill's throat as he played that shot. A gift from Rashid and a return gift from Guppy. A half tracker, around middle, Martin pulls this but it is straight to deep backward square leg where James Vince - yes, James Vince - takes the catch. Guptill cannot believe what he has done. Neither can Rashid.
9.3 : 9.3: A Rashid to de Grandhomme, FOUR! Just over! Full and around middle, de Grandhomme looks to sweep but gets it off the inner half of the bat. Luckily for him, the ball just flies over short fine leg!
9.4 : 9.4: A Rashid to de Grandhomme, SIX! CLUBBED! Tossed up around off, de Grandhomme gets down and mows a slog sweep over mid-wicket. Into the bars!
10.1 : 10.1: L Gregory to de Grandhomme, OUT! BOWLED! Played on. A wicket first ball. Full and outside off, de Grandhomme continues his wild swiping, swinging at this one again, without moving his feet and gets a thick inside edge onto the stumps. Questionable approach. With Guptill gone just a few balls ago, was this shot needed? But then, he did the same to Rashid the next ball after Guppy got out. Useful cameo.
11.4 : 11.4: A Rashid to R Taylor, SIX! CLUNK! Tossed up and gone. Right in the slot, full and outside off, Taylor gets down and slog sweeps this over mid-wicket.
11.5 : 11.5: A Rashid to R Taylor, EDGED, FOUR! Thrown up wide outside off, Taylor slashes hard and gets a thick outside edge. However, to his luck, it flies over a leaping backward point.
12.2 : 12.2: L Gregory to R Taylor, FOUR! Short and outside off, Taylor punches it very fine. Short third man dives to his right, but misses.
13.5 : 13.5: Sam Curran to D Mitchell, OUT! Caught! Poor choice of a shot from Mitchell. The wind is blowing into him, which means that going straight back over the bowler requires that extra effort. The length is full from Curran and that does the trick. Daryl is enticed to go big and straight. He hits it into the breeze, aiming to clear long on and Chris Jordan takes it easily.
14.4 : 14.4: A Rashid to J Neesham, FOUR! Another one down the leg side. This time Neesham does not miss out, clipping it past short fine leg.
15.3 : 15.3: Sam Curran to J Neesham, SIX! A rare bad ball from Sam. A length ball, on the pads, swung over deep backward square leg.
16.2 : 16.2: S Mahmood to J Neesham, SIX! A gift. A length ball, on the pads, Neesham just picks it up and deposits it over backward square leg!
17.4 : 17.4: C Jordan to R Taylor, OUT! Plumb LBW! Pinpoint accuracy. Taylor goes for the slog while Jordan goes for the yorker. The latter misses his length but the batsman misses too. It is a low full toss but it is dipping in with the angle. Taylor looks to slog but misses and is hit right in front of the stumps. Easy decision for the umpire. Ball Tracker shows it to be crashing into middle and off stumps.
17.6 : 17.6: C Jordan to M Santner, OUT! Caught! Another batsman not reading the breeze. A length ball around middle, Santner looks to heave it across the line but he is hitting into the wind. Cannot quite get the power and hands a simple catch to Pat Brown at long on. Two wickets in the over with just 2 singles. Fantastic from Jordan.
18.3 : 18.3: S Mahmood to J Neesham, SIX! Nice strike! Full and wide outside off, Neesham reaches out and carves it over extra cover!
18.5 : 18.5: S Mahmood to J Neesham, FOUR! Not in control but will get a boundary. A length ball, down the leg side, Neesham looks to flick but the extra bounce makes the ball hit the top half of the bat. But it flies over short fine leg and then trickles into the ropes.
19.5: C Jordan to J Neesham, SIX! CLUNK! A short ball, around middle, slower in pace, Neesham pulls it over mid-wicket!
19.6 : 19.6: C Jordan to J Neesham, OUT! Caught! The bat has hit the ground and the ball has hit the toe end. Full and wide outside off, Neesham looks to slash and does so. The ball goes straight to point. Now, Vince does not do anything, just quietly walks across towards his team. Then, he sees the batsmen running and appeals for the catch. His team is the least bit interested as Morgan is busy applauding his players. Jordan asks the umpire seriously and they refer it upstairs with the soft signal as
0.1 : 0.1: Tim Southee to J Bairstow, OUT! Caught on the very first ball! Gosh. What a start for New Zealand. They needed early wickets and the skipper has delivered. Full and around off, Bairstow expects it to swing in and hence looks to play it with a bit of a closed face of the bat. But the ball comes straight on, takes the inner half of the bat and lobs straight to Daryl Mitchell at mid on!
1.2 : 1.2: L Ferguson to J Vince, OUT! Caught! Vince's poor day is over. Dropped three catches, came out with the same pair of batting gloves and now, has been dismissed. Full and wide outside off, Vince reaches out and slashes hard. But it is straight to Mitchell Santner at sweeper cover. New Zealand are all smiles.
1.3 : 1.3: L Ferguson to E Morgan, FOUR, BUT ALMOST A WICKET! Excellent planning from New Zealand. They have a man just behind first slip and then a man at squarish gully. The length is short and Morgan looks to hop and cut. It is aerial and just eludes the gully fielder to the point fence!
2.2 : 2.2: Tim Southee to E Morgan, SIX! CLOUT! Not surprising. Two wickets down early but the counter-attack keeps coming. This is England. A length ball, outside off, Morgan jumps out and bashes this over the covers.
3.2: L Ferguson to E Morgan, FOUR! CRACK! Short and wide outside off, Morgan crashes the cut through the covers.
3.3 : 3.3: L Ferguson to E Morgan, SIX! This has gone all the way. A length ball, around off, Morgan jumps down the track and carves it over point!
3.5 : 3.5: L Ferguson to E Morgan, FOUR! A free hit, really. Landed outside off, Morgan punches this between cover and point!
4.3 : 4.3: M Santner to E Morgan, SIX! CREAMED! An absolute gift. A full toss, around middle, Morgan rocks back and pulls it over mid-wicket!
4.5 : 4.5: M Santner to E Morgan, OUT! Caught! Big moment in the game. Morgan is gone. Floated around middle, Morgan gets down to mow the slog, aiming to go mid-wicket but he finds Colin de Grandhomme at long on instead! A quickfire knock comes to an end and the inexperienced batting is exposed.
5.3 : 5.3: J Neesham to D Malan, FOUR! Full and wide outside off, swinging away, Malan throws his bat at it and gets a thick outside edge which flies past short third man.
7.2 : 7.2: D Mitchell to D Malan, FOUR! MAGNIFICENT! Full and outside off, Malan reaches out and drives it through the covers!
8.2: Ish Sodhi to Sam Billings, OUT! Caught! Another one bites the dust. Thrown up outside off, Billings comes down the track and looks to go aerial but cannot get enough timing. Colin de Grandhomme backtracks from mid off and takes it calmly. Made it look simple. SAM CURRAN WALKS IN.
9.3 : 9.3: J Neesham to D Malan, SIX! CREAMED! That has gone onto the roof! A short ball, around middle, Malan swings his bat and pulls it massively over mid-wicket! The ball has gone beyond the stadium!
9.6 : 9.6: J Neesham to Sam Curran, FOUR! There comes the 15-run over which England were looking for. Full and wide outside off, Curran reaches out and carves it over point!
10.3 : 10.3: M Santner to D Malan, SIX! FEROCIOUS! 87 needed from 57 now. Full and around middle, Malan gets down and mows a slog sweep over mid-wicket!
10.5 : 10.5: M Santner to Sam Curran, OUT! Caught! Uh oh... mistake. Big mistake by Sam Curran. Yes, the required rate is mounting. But you needed to give the strike to Malan. It is very important that Dawid bats through and gets as much strike as possible. Full and around middle and off, Curran gets down on a knee and looks to clear the boundary at long on. Unsuccessful attempt. Simple catch for Colin de Grandhomme at the boundary.
11.3 : 11.3: Ish Sodhi to D Malan, OUT! Caught! That probably, is the end of the run chase. Full and outside off, thrown wide, Malan reaches out and looks to go over long off but mistimes it. It looks like the ball will land safely but Martin Guptill comes charging in from long off and dives forward to pull off a blinder. Does not react at all. Everyday business for him. 84 needed from 51 now.
13.3: Ish Sodhi to C Jordan, FOUR! Short and outside off, Jordan rocks back and cuts it through the covers.
13.4 : 13.4: Ish Sodhi to C Jordan, SIX! Nice shot. Short and outside off, Jordan rocks back and pulls it over long on. 69 more needed from 32 now.
13.5 : 13.5: Ish Sodhi to C Jordan, SIX! FETCH THAT! Full and outside off, Jordan gets down and mows a slog sweep miles over mid-wicket!
13.6 : 13.6: Ish Sodhi to C Jordan, SIX! 24 from the over and the game changes again. That is T20 for you. England were looking down and out a while ago but this burst from Jordan has sprung up a few chances. Short and outside off, Jordan rocks back and pulls it massively over mid-wicket again! Sodhi finishes with figures of 4-0-37-2. 57 needed from 36 balls.
14.5 : 14.5: L Ferguson to C Jordan, FOUR! Risky ball with third man and mid off up. Ferguson goes full and Jordan tonks him over mid off!
15.1 : 15.1: M Santner to C Jordan, FOUR! Up and over! Bad start to the over. Short and outside off, Jordan goes back and punches it over cover!
15.6 : 15.6: M Santner to C Jordan, OUT! Caught! Jordan is gone and New Zealand heave a sigh of relief. Full and outside off, perhaps a bit too full. Jordan looks to swing but cannot quite get underneath the ball. The elevation is not there and Martin Guptill takes a simple catch at wide long on. Wonderful innings from Jordan. England need 43 from 24 balls.
16.5 : 16.5: Tim Southee to L Gregory, SIX! HAMMERED! That is power and muscle from Gregory. A length ball, around off, Gregory swings this cleanly over long on.
16.6 : 16.6: Tim Southee to L Gregory, OUT! Caught! Gregory is gone as well. Full and outside off, Lewis looks to go big but this time slices it. Colin de Grandhomme takes a comfortable catch at short extra cover.
17.2 : 17.2: L Ferguson to S Mahmood, EDGED, FOUR! A length ball outside off, Mahmood swings hard but gets a thick outside edge. The keeper flies to his right but the ball escapes past his gloves to the third man fence.
17.3 : 17.3: L Ferguson to S Mahmood, OUT! Caught! Number 9 goes. A length ball outside off, Mahmood looks to force this on the up over cover but gets it a bit high in the air. Another easy catch, this time for Tim Southee at extra cover, moving to his left. Pat Brown is the last man in.
19.5 : 19.5: D Mitchell to A Rashid, OUT! BOWLED! That ends the game. A perfect yorker from Mitchell, right at the base of off stump, Rashid swings hard but misses. The ball hits the off timber. NZ WIN BY 21 RUNS, LEVEL SERIES 1-1!
