0.0 : Virat Kohli, Ab de Villiers, Kieron Pollard, Rohit Sharma and a few more are the starts in action tonight. Does that get you excited? Well, I surely am. Welcome to the coverage of the 7th game of this year's Indian T20 League. |
It is a clash between two teams which were beaten in their first game quite convincingly. Bangalore will be hosting Mumbai tonight. Both the teams will be eager to get their first points on the board. Who will come out victorious? We will have to wait to find out. |
PITCH REPORT - Ian Bishop starts by saying this is normally a high scoring ground and we can expect another high scoring game here. Mentions there are signs of moisture and the ball should slide on but there could be some assistance for the spinners too. |
TOSS - Bangalore win the toss and they elect to field! |
Bangalore skipper, Virat Kohli, says they want to bowl first, as it looks like a flat wicket and he expects it to ease up as the game progresses. Informs that they are playing the same XI. He hopes to win this game and get some momentum going. Ends by saying that there is no home advantage here in Bangalore as it is a true wicket. |
Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma, says they are confident as they have played some good cricket here. Mentions that they will try and assess the conditions as quickly as possible and then try and defend. He hopes to lead from the front here tonight. |
We are all set for the action to begin! The Bangalore players make their way out to the middle. They are followed by the left-hand, right-hand combination of Quinton de Kock and Rohit Sharma. The former will be on strike and he will be facing Umesh Yadav. Here we go... |
0.1 : U Yadav to de Kock, A little bit of swing to begin with! It is on the fuller side, tails back in from outside off. De Kock strokes it nicely but finds mid off. |
0.2 : U Yadav to de Kock, Well fielded! Umesh goes full again, this time de Kock hits it a little more straighter than the last ball. Siraj though runs to his left and stops it with a dive. Saves three for his side. Mumbai though are underway. |
0.3 : U Yadav to R Sharma, FOUR! A present on the very first ball for Rohit and he takes it with both hands. Down the leg side, Rohit just helps it on its way to the fine leg fence. First boundary of the game. |
0.4 : U Yadav to R Sharma, Corrects his line and length as he lands it on middle and on a length. It is kept out. |
0.5 : U Yadav to R Sharma, FOUR! Easy pickings! Consecutive boundaries! On the pads, Rohit just flicks it through square leg and it races away. |
0.6 : U Yadav to R Sharma, A dot to end! But a very good over for Mumbai. Length ball on off, the batsman lunges and keeps it out. |
Navdeep Saini to bowl from the other end. |
1.1 : N Saini to de Kock, Almost a crowd catch there! Full and on middle, de Kock flicks it on the bounce to Chahal at mid-wicket who fails to collect it. |
1.2 : N Saini to de Kock, A little too straight again, de Kock works it to fine leg and gets to the other end. |
1.3 : N Saini to R Sharma, FOUR! Rohit is only scoring in boundaries here! His third so far. This was fortunate though. Navdeep bowls a good ball, it lands on off and jags back in. Rohit tries to keep it out but it goes off the inside edge, over the stumps and to the fine leg fence. |
1.4 : N Saini to R Sharma, Outside off this time and Rohit shoulders arms to this one. |
1.5 : N Saini to R Sharma, Back of a length again and on off, it is bowled at 149.5 kph. Rohit blocks it out. |
1.6 : N Saini to R Sharma, FOUR! Rohit moves onto 16 and he has scored all of his runs in boundaries. This is delightful. Slightly full and on off, Rohit leans into the stroke and hits it past cover. Second boundary in the over and the second over too goes for 9. |
2.1 : U Yadav to de Kock, Shorter in length and on off, de Kock guides it down to third man and takes a run. |
2.2 : U Yadav to R Sharma, Extra bounce there! Shortish and outside off, this one takes off. Rohit looks to punch but it goes off the higher portion of the bat to mid off. |
2.3 : U Yadav to R Sharma, Length on off again, Rohit plays it late and towards point for no runs. Good bowling. |
2.4 : U Yadav to R Sharma, Just the two from the first 4 balls here. This is on middle, Rohit shuffles across and works it towards backward square leg for a single. |
2.5 : U Yadav to de Kock, FOUR! That has been dismissed! Slightly short and de Kock picks the length early. He pulls it right through mid-wicket and the ball races away. A boundary at least in the first three overs. |
2.6 : U Yadav to de Kock, A single to end as de Kock works this towards square leg. Mumbai are off to a very good start here. |
3.1 : N Saini to de Kock, Extremely full on middle, de Kock jams it out towards mid on for a quick run. |
3.2 : N Saini to R Sharma, On a length and on off, Rohit is half-forward as he keeps it out. |
3.3 : N Saini to R Sharma, SIX! He has picked the bones out of that one! Short and on middle, once again, Rohit picks the length very early. He transfers his weight onto the back foot and pulls it over the mid-wicket fence for the first biggie. |
3.4 : N Saini to R Sharma, Another confident drive to cover but for no runs. The ball seems to be skidding on here. |
3.5 : N Saini to R Sharma, Again that has rocketed towards the mid off fielder after hitting the middle. No runs for that shot but it was pleasing to watch. |
3.6 : N Saini to R Sharma, Three dots to end! So a good comeback by the bowler. Only 7 from it despite it going for a biggie. Length and outside off, Rohit opens the face of the bat and guides it to point. |
Mohammed Siraj is on now. |
4.1 : M Siraj to de Kock, Starts off with a fuller length delivery, de Kock mistimes it to mid on. |
4.2 : M Siraj to de Kock, Good bowling! Cramping the batsman for room by bowling it closer to the body. De Kock makes room and tries to cut but is beaten for pace. |
4.3 : M Siraj to de Kock, SIX! All the way! Trademark de Kock this. Takes a few steps down the ground and then smashes the length ball over the long on fence. First biggie for him. |
4.4 : M Siraj to de Kock, Direct hit and it would have been close! Good running in the end! Length delivery around middle, de Kock strokes it to the left of Siraj. He makes a half-stop. De Kock then goes for a run but Siraj gets to it quickly. He then turns and has a shy at his end but misses. Had he hit, de Kock's dive would not have saved him. |
4.5 : M Siraj to R Sharma, Back of a length on off, Sharma guides it to point. |
4.6 : M Siraj to R Sharma, FOUR! Bludgeoned! That has gone to the fence like a tracer bullet. Length and outside off, Sharma stands tall and smashes it past the fielder at mid off. An expensive start from Siraj, 11 from his first. |
5.1 : N Saini to de Kock, Well fielded! De Kock takes a few steps ahead and then hits it towards mid on. The fielder there does well to run to his right and stop it. |
5.2 : N Saini to de Kock, A good bumper there! De Kock may not have been expecting it but he evades it at the very end. |
5.3 : N Saini to de Kock, DROPPED AND FOUR! That is like rubbing salt to the wound. Grandhomme is the culprit. That should have been taken. Full and on middle, de Kock flicks it but uppishly towards mid-wicket. Colin there stretches his two hands upwards and tries to catch it but the ball bursts through and then goes to the fence behind. Big let off this, de Kock can be very dangerous here. |
5.4 : N Saini to de Kock, The yorker and Saini follows the batsman. De Kock jams it out. |
5.5 : N Saini to de Kock, Good short ball! De Kock is a little late in the pull shot. It goes towards square leg for a run. |
5.6 : N Saini to R Sharma, FOUR! Excellent way to end the Powerplay for Mumbai. 9 from it and it also brings the 50-run stand up. Ideal stand for Mumbai. Saini bowls this full and on off, Rohit lofts it over covers to bag another boundary. All Mumbai in the first six. |
Strategic break. Also, Yuzvendra Chahal is into the attack now. |

6.2 : Y Chahal to de Kock, Short and wide outside off, de Kock cuts it towards short third man. The fielder there moves to his right and tries to stop it, but fails to do so. The batsmen take two. |
6.3 : Y Chahal to de Kock, OUT! This is what you call impact! What a player, Yuzvendra Chahal. Gets rid of the dangerous de Kock in his very first over. He tosses it up on leg stump, Quinton de Kock moves across, maybe a little too much, as he looks to drag the reverse sweep on the off side. It goes off the under edge and disturbs the stumps behind. The break does the job for the hosts, they get their first breakthrough. |
Suryakumar Yadav walks in at no.3. |
6.4 : Y Chahal to S Yadav, Off the mark straightaway. Suryakumar drives it to mid on and takes a single. |

7.4 : de Grandhomme to R Sharma, Rohit brings his wrists into play and turns it through the vacant mid-wicket area. One run collected. |
7.5 : de Grandhomme to S Yadav, This full delivery is driven through towards wide long on where AB de Villiers collects. Another run taken. |
7.6 : de Grandhomme to R Sharma, Driven hard but straight to the man at cover. End of the over. |
8.1 : Y Chahal to S Yadav, FOUR BYES! Gone right through everyone! Full and the leg break, a little quicker in pace and it keeps a little low, Yadav gets low to sweep but fails to make connection. It goes under his bat, through the keeper's legs and away to the boundary line behind. |

8.5 : Y Chahal to R Sharma, FOUR! Poor line and he pays the price for it. Full on the pads, Rohit kneels down and sweeps it down the leg side. Nobody out there in the deep, so the ball runs away to the fence. |
8.6 : Y Chahal to R Sharma, The Mumbai skipper moves inside the line, closes the face and nudges it in front of square leg and crosses over. |
9.1 : de Grandhomme to R Sharma, Really full from Colin de Grandhomme, just around off, Sharma hammers it straight back down the ground. Hetmyer from long off moves swiftly to his left, slides and stops the ball. Gives it to de Villiers who throws it back in. Two runs are taken. |

9.4 : de Grandhomme to R Sharma, FOUR! Slog sweeps a pace bowler. Wow. That's the kind of form he's in this evening. De Grandhomme attacks the off stick with a full ball and Rohit gets low fast. He slog sweeps it aerially in front of square leg and beats the two men in the deep. |
9.5 : de Grandhomme to R Sharma, Drives this full delivery through the gap in the covers and manages to get off strike. |
9.6 : de Grandhomme to S Yadav, High full toss on the stumps, punched through wide mid on by SKY. Single taken. |
Umesh Yadav is back on. |
10.1 : U Yadav to S Yadav, FOUR! Welcome back into the attack Yadav! Short and on off, SKY is quick to latch onto it. He pulls it through mid-wicket. The outfield is such that if it is in the gap, it is a certain boundary. |
10.2 : U Yadav to S Yadav, Full and on the pads, Suryakumar stylishly flicks it towards fine leg for a single. |
10.3 : U Yadav to R Sharma, Makes room but Yadav follows him. Rohit mistimes it to mid off. |
10.4 : U Yadav to R Sharma, OUT! In the air... taken! There goes the Hitman, two short of a half ton. A wicket completely against the run of play. Bangalore will be delighted as Rohit was looking extremely good. A delivery which is on the shorter side and it is outside off. It skids through. Rohit looks to pull but the ball hurries onto him. His bat turns in his hands and he ends up mistiming it high in the air towards long on. Siraj there runs in and takes a sliding catch. The bowling change has |

12.6 : M Ali to S Yadav, FOUR! 10 from the last two deliveries and 13 from the over. Not what Bangalore wanted as they were starting to tighten things up here. Top shot this from SKY. He whips this through mid-wicket. It is in the gap and it races away to the fence. |
Yuzvendra Chahal is back on. |
13.1 : Y Chahal to Y Singh, SIX! That is huge! He has really hit that hard. Yes, it is a poor ball but it still has to be put away. Short and on middle, Yuvraj goes back and pulls it over the square leg fence. |
13.2 : Y Chahal to Y Singh, SIX! Back-to-back maximums! Yuvraj Singh is on fire here. What a clean hit. Chahal gives it air this time but lands it very full on off. Yuvraj hits it over the bowler's head. The connection is such that it goes all the way. |
13.3 : Y Chahal to Y Singh, SIX! High and handsome! Three in a row! Another poor ball. Short and outside off, Yuvraj goes back and powers it over the long on stands. Will he now make it 4 in 4 here? |
13.4 : Y Chahal to Y Singh, OUT! No, he does not! He does look to go for it but falls in the attempt to do so. Chahal is brave enough to toss it up outside off. It may have been the googly. Yuvraj looks to clear long off this time but does not get it off the middle. It goes towards the fielder there. Siraj for a second seems to have misjudged it but then takes it with both his hands raised above his head. Also, a tumble after that. Chahal gets his second and Yuvraj walks back disappointed. Not su |

Moeen Ali from cover-point runs to his right and takes a good catch. End of a very good innings from Suryakumar Yadav but Mumbai would have wanted him to stay out there. Strategic break has been signaled! Krunal Pandya is the new man in. |
15.4 : Y Chahal to K Pollard, On the pads, Pollard flicks it through square leg and takes a single. |
15.5 : Y Chahal to K Pandya, DROPPED! But a top effort from Chahal! Almost gets his 4th. Tosses it up around off, Pandya looks to go with the turn. He though plays it with hard hands. It goes uppishly to the left of the bowler who dives and gets a hand to it but can't hang on. The batsmen take a run. That needed to stick but it did not. |
15.6 : Y Chahal to K Pollard, WIDE! Down the leg side, Pollard looks to flick but misses. It has been wided. |
Y Chahal to K Pollard, OUT! Second in the over for Chahal and he gets rid of the dangerous Pollard. Finishes with a four-fer does the leggie. Half the side in the hut for the visitors and they seem to be losing their way a little. Once again great courage shown by Chahal as he gives it a lot of air and land it outside off. Pollard looks to go inside out but the little turn away does him in. He ends up slicing it towards the man at sweeper cover. Hetmyer there settles under it and takes it. |
Hardik Pandya to bat next. Also, Umesh Yadav back on to bowl. |
16.1 : U Yadav to H Pandya, Good length delivery around the off stump channel, Hardik defends it from inside the crease. |

Fortunately, the throw came in at the keeper's end and he had enough time to go back. The batsmen get a single. |
16.3 : U Yadav to K Pandya, OUT! Another Mumbai wicket down! Bangalore slowly rising on top of the game here. Umesh bangs it in short and down leg, Krunal pulls this away. Doesn't get enough height on it as Saini out in the deep leaps and takes it just inside the rope. The umpire checks upstairs whether his foot touched the rope and also if Umesh overstepped his line, and it's fine on both accounts. The elder Pandya has to depart. |
Mitchell McClenaghan to be the new batsman in. |

17.1 : M Siraj to M McClenaghan, OUT! Another one bites the dust! McClenaghan has played it on and now Bangalore are into the bowlers. This is bowled outside off and it is on a length. MM goes after it away from his body but only manages an inside edge onto the stumps. |

18.1 : N Saini to H Pandya, FOUR! And Hardik goes bang! Full toss on off stump, the younger Pandya, with an absolutely straight bat, hammers it straight over the bowler's head, bisecting the two men out in the deep. He holds the pose for the cameras too. |
18.2 : N Saini to H Pandya, Back of a length on the fifth stump line, Hardik swings hard across the line but fails to make any sort of connection. |
18.3 : N Saini to H Pandya, SIX! That's gone a looooooonnnnnggggggg waaaaayyyyy! Hardik Pandya makes the sweetest of connections when he dispatches this. Short of a good length on the stumps, the Mumbai all-rounder stands his ground and muscles the pull deep into the mid-wicket stands. |
18.4 : N Saini to H Pandya, No ball! Too high from Saini. The full toss is above waist height, Hardik swings and gets a top edge which skies on the leg side. The keeper comes under it but fails to catch it. The batsmen take two runs. Free Hit coming up on the next delivery... |
N Saini to H Pandya, Good ball on the Free Hit from Saini. It's a yorker outside off, the batter drills it through the off side for a run. |
18.5 : N Saini to M Markande, Full delivery attacking the stumps, Markande puts bat on ball, places it towards mid on and scrambles to the other end. |
18.6 : N Saini to H Pandya, Excellent delivery to end the over. Yorker just outside off, Hardik can only play it back to the bowler. 15 runs off it, though Mumbai will feel they could have had more. |
19.1 : M Siraj to M Markande, OUT! Eventually, he's given out caught behind. Length ball cutting in off the deck, Markande tries to run it down to third man with an open face but the ball seemingly goes off the inside edge. The batsmen cross over and there is an appeal for a run out as well, but it's caught behind. Hardik won't be on strike for the next ball. |
Jasprit Bumrah in next for Mumbai. |
The DRS has been taken. It's for an lbw decision against Bumrah and Bangalore have referred it upstairs. |
19.2 : M Siraj to J Bumrah, Not out! Bumrah survives. Clearly going down leg. Full ball and it catches Bumrah low on the pads as he misses his flick shot. It rolls away on the leg side and the batsmen take a run. Bangalore review it but much to their dismay, replays don't rule it in their favour. A leg bye is signalled. |
19.3 : M Siraj to H Pandya, SIX! Hardik Pandya giving his side a late impetus here. This is exceptional hitting. Full ball and it's right in his slot, he stands his ground and tonks it over the long on fence for a maximum. |
19.4 : M Siraj to H Pandya, Wide! Slower short ball just around off, Hardik swings and misses. Was high, the batsman was looking for a wide, and got it too. |
M Siraj to H Pandya, Leading edge which lands safely. Full delivery curling back in, Hardik looks to whip it away on the leg side but it pops off the leading edge and falls safely in the covers. |
19.5 : M Siraj to H Pandya, SIX! Take a bow, Hardik Pandya. This is superb. Superb. He stands deep inside his crease, it's bowled full again, but due to his starting position he's able to get under the ball and slog it over mid-wicket for a biggie. |
19.6 : M Siraj to H Pandya, Extremely full and well outside off, Hardik drills it through cover-point. Sweeper cover comes across to his left and keeps the batsmen to just the one. MUMBAI FINISH ON 187/8! |
Hardik Pandya's late flurry has put Mumbai in a good position come the end of the innings. 30 runs came in the last two overs which provided the visitors the momentum they so desperately needed. The innings largely revolved around skipper Rohit, he was in good touch and looked set for a big one, but was dismissed against the run of play. Yuvraj too was going great guns, but got dismissed after hitting Chahal for three sixes in a row. Post that, the wickets kept falling and Bangalore creeped thei |
Bangalore did bowl well for the most part. Started well decently, did well in the middle overs and post Yuvraj's dismissal, scalped more wickets in clumps. It was just their death bowling which let them down. Chahal starred with his 4-wicket haul, though he did go for a fair few runs. Siraj and Umesh bagged 2 each to their name. |
Bangalore won't be too disheartened seeing the score on the board. It is the Chinnaswamy and with the dew to play its part and the kind of firepower they have in their ranks, they will back themselves to gun this down. However, as it has been seen over the years, their batting order does tend to collapse out of nowhere. Will be an interesting second half as Mumbai have some quality bowlers. |
Yuzvendra Chahal who is up for an interview starts by saying the wicket is very good to bat on. Mentions you need to vary your pace on it and he tried doing so. Further adds he is used to going for runs but he still tries to bowl the best ball and he always looks for wickets. Ends by saying the total is a good one and it is not easy to contain. |
