IND 277/7 (49.1)
Match over
1.5 : 1.5: Deepak Chahar to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! First of the game! Chahar gets greedy, tries to bowl an outswinger from the leg stump line, but it turns out to be very straight in line and Bhanuka flicks it through backward square leg for a boundary. Opens his account.
3.1 : 3.1: Deepak Chahar to Avishka Fernando, FOUR! Great shot! A length delivery in the channel outside off, Fernando takes his front leg forward and cracks it through the gap between mid off and extra cover.
3.2 : 3.2: Deepak Chahar to Avishka Fernando, SIX! Bhuvneshwar Kumar has completely misjudged it, he ran in a bit too much. A length delivery again, this time angling down the leg side, Fernando picks it off his pads and flicks it aerially towards long leg. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is stationed there and he charges in from the deep, misjudges badly as the ball goes over his head. His attempt to catch it with a jump fails and to add insult to injury, it has fallen beyond the boundary line.
4.4 : 4.4: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! Errs in line and pays the price! This is full and a little too straight, Minod takes full toll of it as he whips it over square leg, no one in the deep and this should make Binod feel a lot better. He wanted to get one away and has finally got the boundary that should release the pressure building on him.
4.6 : 4.6: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! A boundary to end the over and this is even better than the last one. One of the hardest shots to play in the game, the on-drive. It is full and on middle, this is creamed through mid on for another boundary. A good over for Sri Lanka. Back-to-back good overs for them. It actually was not timed that well, the bat shook in his hand but since mid on was quite wide, a boundary results.
5.3 : 5.3: Deepak Chahar to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! Binod is now oozing confidence! He is not only started to find the middle but also the gaps. The outfield is also really quick! Slightly shorter and on middle, Binod picks the length early and pulls it through mid-wicket, no chance of stopping that one as it races through mid-wicket.
5.4 : 5.4: Deepak Chahar to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! Raining boundaries at the moment from the bat of Minod. Another beautiful stroke! Yes, it is a half volley but it still has to be put away. Full and on off, this is driven with a straight bat down the ground and it goes to the long off fence. This is a superb start for the Lankans and the pitch looks a belter to bat on.
6.1 : 6.1: Hardik Pandya to Avishka Fernando, FOUR! This time Fernando makes him pay! Pandya goes short, this is his go-to ball but Avishka was ready for it, he hammers it over mid-wicket for another boundary for Sri Lanka in a short span of time.
7.2 : 7.2: Yuzvendra Chahal to Minod Bhanuka, FOUR! Lovely use of the feet and all of a sudden Minod is striking at over a run-a-ball! He steps out and gets to the pitch of the ball, lofts it over mid off for a boundary.
7.4 : 7.4: Yuzvendra Chahal to Avishka Fernando, FOUR! Second boundary in the over. So despite the change in bowling, the runs continue to flow! On the pads, Fernando works it fine on the leg side and this one races away to the fence. Fifty up for Lanka and this is the perfect start for them, the openers have laid the foundation for a good score.
13.2 : 13.2: Yuzvendra Chahal to Minod Bhanuka, OUT! Here is the first breakthrough for India and there is a slice of luck involved in this wicket. Chahal has bought a wicket with a full toss. Not for the first time we have seen a leg spinner getting lucky with that kind of delivery. Chahal looks up at the heavens and thanks his stars. He tosses it up around off, Minod Bhanuka advances down the track to flick it over the leg side but it takes the toe end of his bat and flies straight into the hands of
13.3 : 13.3: Yuzvendra Chahal to Bhanuka Rajapaksa, OUT! Caught behind! A fantastic reflex catch this time by Ishan Kishan. Chahal has two wickets in two balls now and this one is courtesy of his natural variation. Confused? What's a natural variation? Well, it's a delivery that doesn't do what it is expected to do. Chahal serves a leg spinner around off, it's intended to spin back in but instead goes straight on after landing. Bhanuka Rajapaksa leans forward to defend, expecting it to be turning in
23.5 : 23.5: Krunal Pandya to Avishka Fernando, FOUR! First boundary for Sri Lanka after the 8th over, 97 balls to be precise! Flighted delivery and outside off, Avishka lofts it over extra cover and finds the fence.
24.3 : 24.3: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Dhananjaya de Silva, FOUR! Bang! Bhuvneshwar Kumar follows the batsman down the leg side with a fuller length ball, Dhananjaya still manages to find the space and drills his drive down ground for a boundary.
24.6 : 24.6: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Avishka Fernando, OUT! Avishka holes out! A poor shot selection by him after getting a fifty. He is not happy with himself but will have to return. Bhuvneshwar Kumar angles in a length ball around off, Avishka camps back to heave it over the leg side but gets a top edge. Krunal Pandya smartly moves across to his right from mid on and completes the catch easily. A shot he could have easily avoided as the length was not short enough.
27.2 : 27.2: Deepak Chahar to Dhananjaya de Silva, OUT! TAKEN! This is very poor, extremely poor from the Lankan batter. Yes, they probably want to play with an aggressive mindset but this is rash, especially after losing a well-set batter a few overs back. Just like before, after a stand, they have again lost two wickets in quick succession. Dhananjaya once again makes room and tries to go over extra cover. This time Chahar bowls the knuckle-ball, it is full and on off. Dhananjaya is undone completely
30.4 : 30.4: Kuldeep Yadav to Charith Asalanka, FOUR! Bit of aggression from Asalanka and it comes off! This is tossed up well outside off, the length is slightly fuller and hence, Asalanka was able to drag it over mid-wicket for a welcome boundary. 150 up for his side!
33.4: Yuzvendra Chahal to Dasun Shanaka, FOUR! A rare bad delivery from Chahal, bowls it full and down the leg side, Shanaka goes down on one knee and sweeps it behind square leg for a boundary.
35.2 : 35.2: Yuzvendra Chahal to Dasun Shanaka, OUT! TIMBER! Chahal has another one and once again, as a partnership seems to be forming, India strike! Shanaka, the skipper, walks back! The wrong shot to the wrong ball. This is the slider, it lands on middle and then skids through. Shanaka goes back and tries to play it through the off side but there is not a lot of room on offer. It sneaks through and hits the stumps.
35.4 : 35.4: Yuzvendra Chahal to Charith Asalanka, FOUR! Lovely shot! Yes, it is a little too short but it was not too wide outside off. Asalanka stays leg side and slaps it through covers. This one races away to the fence.
37.6 : 37.6: Krunal Pandya to Wanindu Hasaranga, FOUR! Fine shot! Flighted delivery, full and around off, spinning away, Wanindu gets forward and lofts it cleanly over extra cover. No fielder in the deep and it's a safe boundary.
39.1 : 39.1: Deepak Chahar to Wanindu Hasaranga, OUT! BOWLED 'EM! Chahar returns and gets a wicket. Smart beginning from him, he dishes out a slower delivery first up, drops it very full and in line of the stumps, Wanindu Hasaranga is completely fooled by the change in pace. He has played all around it, the ball comes down early and the stumps are rearranged. Deepak gets his second wicket with the knuckle-ball. Wanindu was locked inside the crease with his footwork, went nowhere and paid the price.
40.5 : 40.5: Krunal Pandya to Charith Asalanka, FOUR! 200 up! Asalanka comes down the track, he does not get to the pitch of it but since it was tossed up, he goes down on one knee and heaves it wide of deep mid-wicket for a boundary. A quick check with the third umpire but it had fallen inside the rope.
44.1 : 44.1: Kuldeep Yadav to Charith Asalanka, FOUR! Smashed away! Asalanka brings up his fifty, a fantastic knock under pressure. Kuldeep bowls it full and wide outside off, spinning away, Asalanka attacks it and flat-bats it over covers.
44.4 : 44.4: Kuldeep Yadav to Charith Asalanka, FOUR! This is another cracking shot from the bat of Charith Asalanka. Kuldeep delivers it slower through the air, full and landing on off, Asalanka kneels down and powers his slog sweep in front of square leg.
45.5 : 45.5: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Charith Asalanka, EDGY FOUR! Length and outside off, Asalanka throws his bat at it and the ball goes off the outside edge to the third man fence. Sri Lanka won't mind how the boundaries come as long as they come.
47.1 : 47.1: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Charith Asalanka, OUT! TAKEN! Straight to the man and it is a welcome wicket for the visitors! A good innings by Asalanka comes to an end but his team would have loved had he batted the distance. The slower one does the trick for Kumar! It is full and on middle, Asalanka looks to heave it over the mid-wicket fence but does not connect that well and it is also towards the longer part of the ground. Devdutt Padikkal, the sub, takes a simple catch. A good batting effort
47.2 : 47.2: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! Edgy! Not a good ball with third man up in the ring, this is outside off and on a length. Karunaratne slashes at it but it goes off the outside edge and down to the third man fence.
48.5 : 48.5: Deepak Chahar to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! Welcome boundary! Comes down the track and takes it on the full toss, he smashes it down the ground to the long off fence for a boundary.
48.6 : 48.6: Deepak Chahar to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! The last two balls spoil the over completely and it turns out to be an excellent one for Sri Lanka! Poor ball to finish! It is short and on the body, with fine leg up, that is easy pickings. This is pulled down to the fine leg fence for a boundary.
49.1 : 49.1: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Dushmantha Chameera, OUT! TAKEN! Kumar has another one! The good thing for Sri Lanka is that the batters crossed. The idea was not wrong there by Chameera but the execution was not there. It is a slower one outside off. Chameera shuffles across and then looks to slog it over the leg side. He had to drag it, the bat turns in his hands and the ball balloons towards square leg off the top edge. Devdutt Padikkal (sub) moves back a bit to take the skier safely.
49.3 : 49.3: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Lakshan Sandakan, OUT! Really good work from Ishan Kishan! This is short and outside off, Sandakan looks to drag it over the leg side but misses. He sets off for a bye but his partner stops after taking a start. Lakshan has to turn and get in but Kishan runs in and hits the stumps before that. Kishan says in Hindi and the stump mic catches it - 'Bol kar maara!' Meaning, he had said it before that he will do the run out. Last evening, he shared that he already had told
49.5 : 49.5: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! Smacked! This is full and outside off, Karunaratne smashes it wide of the sweeper cover fielder for a boundary.
49.6 : 49.6: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to Chamika Karunaratne, FOUR! Thumped down the ground and that is a superb end to the innings for Sri Lanka! THEY END WITH 275/9! This is full and on off, Karunaratne smashes it down the ground to the long off fence for a boundary.
0.4 : 0.4: Kasun Rajitha to Prithvi Shaw, FOUR! Shaw is off the mark in style! Length and on middle, Shaw stays back, shows the full face of the bat and punches it past mid on for a boundary. What a confident stroke from a batter oozing with confidence!
0.5 : 0.5: Kasun Rajitha to Prithvi Shaw, FOUR! Through mid off this time! Fuller this time on off, Shaw once again shows the full face of the bat and creams it through mid off. This is a similar start to the last game.
0.6 : 0.6: Kasun Rajitha to Prithvi Shaw, FOUR! Three boundaries in a row and India are off to a flying start again! There is just no margin for error against Shaw. This one is on his pads, he flicks it through mid-wicket. Races away again. Not the start Lanka wanted. 14 from the first over.
1.3 : 1.3: Dushmantha Chameera to Shikhar Dhawan, FOUR! Misfield and a boundary! This is very poor from Sri Lanka! They are already behind in the series and they just can't put in such efforts! This is short and on off, Dhawan plays the upper cut. It lands short of the fielder at third man where Kasun Rajitha overruns a bit to his right and the ball bounces past his left side for a boundary.
1.4 : 1.4: Dushmantha Chameera to Shikhar Dhawan, FOUR! Raining boundaries again! This is just a push! He just uses the pace of the bowler! Fuller and on off, Dhawan times it brilliantly. This runs away to the long off fence. We were talking about pressure two balls back, well, forget it!
1.6 : 1.6: Dushmantha Chameera to Shikhar Dhawan, FOUR! Put away! Short and on the body, Dhawan pulls it through square leg. The fielder in the deep runs to his right, dives and tries to stop it but touches the ropes in the attempt to do so. Three boundaries in this over as well.
2.6: Wanindu Hasaranga to Prithvi Shaw, OUT! SHAW IS BOWLED! Wanindu Hasaranga strikes and Sri Lanka are delighted to see the back of Prithvi Shaw. It's a flatter delivery, landing around off and skidding straight on after landing. Shaw once again stays leg side of this delivery with the aim to power it over the infield on the off side. But he fails to connect and the stumps behind are rattled. Maybe, Shaw was expecting it to spin but it's a new ball and just went straight on. A smart piece of
3.3 : 3.3: Dushmantha Chameera to Shikhar Dhawan, EDGY FOUR! Almost another one for Sri Lanka! They need the luck to go their way but right now it is not! Length and outside off, Dhawan pushes at it, this goes off the inside edge, closely past the off pole and down to the fine leg fence.
3.5 : 3.5: Dushmantha Chameera to Shikhar Dhawan, FOUR! Another one that goes through! Once again such efforts just drop the morale when the team is flying high. Short and outside off, this is cut down towards third man off a thick outside edge, Rajitha there fails to stop it.
4.6 : 4.6: Kasun Rajitha to Ishan Kishan, OUT! Kishan drags it on! No fireworks from his bat this evening. Sri Lanka have another and the half centurion from the last game walks back! This is short and outside off, Kishan slashes at it but is probably undone by the slowness of the delivery. It goes off the inside edge and back onto the stumps. India are in a spot of bother now.
7.1 : 7.1: Dushmantha Chameera to Manish Pandey, FOUR! That could have been stopped! This is full and on middle, Pandey flicks it stylishly to wide of mid on. Rajitha, who just bowled an over, moves lazily across to his right, dives but over the ball and it goes through to the boundary.
8.5 : 8.5: Kasun Rajitha to Shikhar Dhawan, FOUR! A short-arm jab from Dhawan! Rajitha is on the shorter side with his length, it's around off and Dhawan stands his ground. He deliberately keeps his shot down and forces it in front of square leg for a boundary.
11.6 : 11.6: Wanindu Hasaranga to Shikhar Dhawan, OUT! THREE REDS AND DHAWAN IS A GONER NOW! That looked out, to be honest. The umpire probably felt there was some bat or maybe high. Hasaranga does the trick again for his side and India are now on the back foot. Dhawan was actually struggling. He never looked in despite facing 38 balls and finally falls. This lands on middle and straightens. Dhawan goes back and tries to work it on the leg side but misses. It hits the pads. A huge appeal follows but it
12.1 : 12.1: Lakshan Sandakan to Manish Pandey, FOUR! That is not good from Lakshan! A wicket just fell of the last ball, he needed to follow it up well but ends up serving a full toss on middle. This is heaved through mid-wicket. The fielder in the deep runs to his right, dives and gets a hand to it, it trickles towards the ropes, he tries again but this time fails to stop it.
12.5 : 12.5: Lakshan Sandakan to Manish Pandey, FOUR! Another full toss and it is hammered! The Lankan captain will be quite disappointed with this effort. It is on middle and Pandey does not need a second invitation, he smashes it through mid-wicket and it races away to the fence, with no chance for the fielder in the deep this time.
13.3 : 13.3: Wanindu Hasaranga to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! What a shot that is! Wow! Exquisite! The googly on middle, picked easily, it is whipped over mid-wicket for a boundary.
14.2 : 14.2: Kasun Rajitha to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! That is beautiful! Full and angling into the pads, Yadav just puts bat to ball and this races away to the fence in the mid-wicket region. Absolutely stunning.
15.2: Wanindu Hasaranga to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! This is outstanding stuff from Yadav! Just not allowing the bowler to settle in. The paddle sweep is out, more like a paddle scoop, it is hit fine on the leg side and a boundary results.
16.4 : 16.4: Chamika Karunaratne to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! Clever again from Yadav! He has mastered these innovative shots. He is Mr 360 for India. Chamika Karunaratne digs in a short ball outside off, SKY leaps and ramps it over the keeper's head for a boundary. Yadav is currently batting with a strike rate in excess of 160. Scintillating stuff.
17.2 : 17.2: Dasun Shanaka to Suryakumar Yadav, OUT! RUN OUT! Pandey has to walk back in probably the most unfortunate way! Dasun Shanaka, you beauty! Gets himself on and provides the wicket, not in the fashion he would have thought of doing though. Gets the breakthrough as this stand was taking the game away from them. Shanaka bowls it full and on middle, Yadav strokes it back towards the bowler who gets down, it brushes his fingertips and goes behind and hits the stumps. Pandey is well out and he kn
17.6 : 17.6: Dasun Shanaka to Hardik Pandya, OUT! TAKEN! The dropped catch does not cost a lot as Shanaka gets his man! A duck for Pandya and his habit of going at the ball with hard hands sees him being dismissed. That was never a good idea on this wicket which is sticking a little. Sri Lankan well on truly on top and thanks to their skipper. What an over, comes onto bowl when his team were under pressure and has taken two wickets. This is on middle, holds in the surface. Pandya looks to play it with
18.1 : 18.1: Chamika Karunaratne to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! Blazed away! Once again it's a poor follow-up delivery after a wicket. Short and wide outside off, Yadav reaches out and slaps it through point for a cracking boundary.
23.2 : 23.2: Chamika Karunaratne to Krunal Pandya, FOUR! Streaky! Pandya was in zero control of this shot. Short in length and on off, Krunal turns to pull but it flies off the top edge and goes behind the keeper for a boundary.
26.1 : 26.1: Lakshan Sandakan to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR! What a delightful shot to reach your maiden ODI fifty! Yadav, a very special player. It's a lovely knock by him thus far. Loopy and full around off, SKY brings out his drive and threads the gap between covers and mid off for a glorious boundary.
26.4 : 26.4: Lakshan Sandakan to Krunal Pandya, FOUR! Bad delivery and it's put away. A low full toss outside off, Krunal presses forward and drives it crisply through extra cover for a boundary.
26.6 : 26.6: Lakshan Sandakan to Suryakumar Yadav, OUT! Yadav is adjudged lbw! Body blow to India. 116 needed more off 138 balls. Sandakan was having a very ordinary evening before this ball but he has hit the jackpot now. A big wicket at this stage for Sri Lanka as Suryakumar Yadav was the last recognized batsman for India. Sandakan serves a flighted ball close to off and gets it to spin back in a bit, SKY tries to defend it close to his front pad. It appears to have come off his bat but the bowler ap
32.4 : 32.4: Lakshan Sandakan to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! Cracked and that should release a lot of pressure off Chahar. This is overpitched and wide outside off. Chahar says thank you very much and drills it through covers for a boundary.
35.1 : 35.1: Wanindu Hasaranga to Krunal Pandya, OUT! TIMBER! There is the wicket Sri Lanka desperately needed. Probably, the last hope for India is walking back now and Hasaranga strikes when his side needed him to. Wastes no time as he makes an impact on the first ball of his third spell. Was wondering why they were holding him back, maybe that is why!
30.1: Lakshan Sandakan to Krunal Pandya, FOUR! Welcome boundary! Runs needed now below 100! That is a gift for Pandya. Short and down the leg side, this is pulled hard through backward square leg and it races away to the fence.
40.5 : 40.5: Lakshan Sandakan to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! A much-needed boundary for India. Tossed up ball, landing outside leg and spinning away, Chahar sits down and sweeps it fine to fine leg for a boundary. 61 needed off 55 balls.
42.2 : 42.2: Lakshan Sandakan to Deepak Chahar, SIX! That's a big powerful blow from Deepak Chahar. Too full in length and outside off, Chahar finds it in his range and dispatches it over long off for a biggie. 50 needed off 46 balls.
43.2: Kasun Rajitha to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! Chahar is doing it for India! Fuller in length and in the line of the stumps, Chahar hops back to make room and bludgeons it past the bowler for a boundary down the ground. Chahar moves to 44! 40 needed off 40 balls.
43.3 : 43.3: Kasun Rajitha to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! 36 needed off 39 balls now. The pressure is getting transferred back on Sri Lanka. An overpitched delivery outside off, Chahar slices it over backward point for a boundary.
48.2 : 48.2: Dushmantha Chameera to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! Another edgy boundary! Not sure why the third man is up with so many runs going down that region! It is short and outside off, Chahar slashes at it and it goes off the outside edge past the short third man fielder for a boundary.
48.6 : 48.6: Dushmantha Chameera to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, FOUR! Kumar gets it away for a boundary and that is probably the stroke that wins India not only the game but the series too. Again, not a good ball with point and third man in the ring. Full and outside off, Kumar carves it over the point fielder for a boundary. 12 from the over and India are on the cusp of victory.
49.1 : 49.1: Kasun Rajitha to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! Chahar finishes it in style! A fitting end to this game. A slower short ball on middle, it sits up to be hit and Chahar was ready for it. He smacks it over the mid-wicket fielder for a boundary. INDIA WIN BY 3 WICKETS!
46.1: Dushmantha Chameera to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, EDGED AND FOUR! That possibly brushed the fingertips of the keeper! What a start to the over. This is on a length and outside off, Kumar opens the face of the bat, he looks to play it down to third man but it goes off the outside edge and finds the third man fence.
46.3 : 46.3: Dushmantha Chameera to Deepak Chahar, FOUR! Handy runs for India! A short delivery, around leg, Chahar tries to pull but it takes his gloves and speeds away to the fine leg fence. This match is slipping away from Sri Lanka. 20 needed off 21 balls.
