Region plays a vital role in elections, especially in a city like Mumbai, where people from all regions across the country reside.
Working on this particular agenda, the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Mumbai unit has devised a list of coordination committees. The list has at least seven committees, which are region specific and heads have been appointed to get voters from the areas to polling booths.
A total of 29 heads have been created by the party under the Coordination Committee, of which seven are region-specific. These include, Gujarati, Jain, Konkan, North India, Sindhi, and South India. There are other heads too, like New Voter, Muslim community, Women and others, apart from the regular cells that the party already has.
Mumbai has six parliamentary constituencies, of which three are with the BJP, while three with the Shiv Sena. In several constituencies, there are people from various parts of India who play a decisive role.
Niranjan Shetty, BJP leader from Mumbai, who also is part of the Coordination Committee confirmed the creation of the list, and said, "A few days ago, there was a discussion on the lines of getting voters from all backgrounds to the polling booth and getting them to vote for the party."
The aim of the heads of the Coordination Committee is to tap areas where people specific from a particular region reside and convince them to vote for the party. Santosh Singh, who has been appointed as the head for the North Indian voters, said, "We will start the program from April 1. We will take information about the programs undertaken by the government to our voters from the specific region and convince them to vote for the party. We will organise nukkad meetings, visit areas where people from the specific community and region reside, and try to get them to vote."
