Charni Road station gets special entry and exit points

After the foot-overbridge of Charni Road station was shut owing to its collapse, the locals had approached the members of Parliament to help them find a new route to the station. Now, a zebra crossing has been drawn on the road, a speed breaker will be constructed, and special exit and entry points from platform number four has been made available for locals and commuters.

Pandurang Sakpal, the Shiv Sena Vibhag Pramukh of South Mumbai, confirmed that along with the local Sena MP Arvind Sawant he met officials from all the departments last week and urged them to fix the issues.

"Now a zebra crossing is drawn, a speed breaker is on its way there, an exit gate along with stairs on platform number four of Charni Road, and ATVM machines at the exit gate will be put so that residents don't have to bother much. This will also benefit the students apart from commuters once the school starts," said Sakpal. He also added that the ATVM machines will be manned to reduce the trouble for commuters.

Under the banner of Aamhi Girgaumkar, Gaurav Sagwekar had approached the local MP to seek his help. "We had approached the MP and last week he even visited the area. Now the exit points are in place, and the zebra crossing will make the motorists realise that they have to stop and help commuters cross the road in the absence of a bridge," said Sagwekar.

Amit Bhadricha, a Girgaum resident who uses the station every day said, "After the bridge was shut down, reaching the station was difficult; now the exit and the zebra crossing has made the commute easy."

An official from WR said that from the night of October 25, they will start engineering works for this additional entry/exit point at the south end of Charni Road station. It will be ready within couple of days.
