Ganesh Chaturthi 2017: How to tackle traffic jams in Mumbai during 10 days of festival

Ganapati Bappa has arrived in Mumbai and has made sure that the festivities be washed in cold rain waters. That has done little to dampen the spirits of the Mumbaikar whose enthusiasm to ring in Ganesh Chaturthi with gusto knows no bound.

But rains are not the only obstacle. In another train derailment accident, four front coaches of Suburban CST-Andheri local train derailed near Mahim in Mumbai, on Friday morning. 

Consequently, the Traffic Harbour Line services were affected between Andheri and Wadala on Harbour line. That has added to the misery of being stuck in a traffic jam in the streets of Mumbai.

If one to carefully plan their commute in the Maximum City on Friday, they need to know that according to a report in Hindustan Times, Mumbai Traffic Police have shut 53 roads during the Ganeshotsav, 54 roads are made one-way streets and 99 roads are closed for parking.

Colaba, Pydhonie, Kalbadevi, Malabar Hill, Tardeo, Bhoiwada will see about 21 roads shut in South Mumbai. In the western suburbs, 12 roads in Borivali, Andheri, Kandivali, Aarey Colony, Juhu, Vile Parle and Santacruz will be closed for traffic.

These restrictions have become active on midnight and shall last for next four days.

Other specific restrictions include daily changes of the route near Lalbaugcha Raja. Closed roads from Bharat Mata Junction to Bawla Compound from 3 pm -7 pm every day.

The reports also said that five traffic police control rooms have been set up Girgaum Chowpatty, Shivaji Park Chowpatty, Bada Masjid, Bandra, Juhu Chowpatty and Ganesh Ghat-Powai for immersion. 3600 traffic police personnel and 500 traffic wardens have been deployed to smoothen the process with the help of NGO volunteers as well.
