MMRDA office building budget goes up to Rs 106 crore

The new head office of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is being constructed at an estimated price of Rs106 crore, which is up from Rs48.91 crore — a 116.72% of cost overrun.
An Right to Information (RTI) reply from MMRDA to activist Anil Galgali revealed that once again the deadline has been revised and this time the work is expected to get over later this month, that is by December 31.

As reported by dna on April 15, like several other MMRDA projects, even this construction has witnessed price revision by two-fold. The work on this 11-storied building took off on March 2008 (after getting approval on December 24, 2007) only with a target to complete the work and move in by March 2010. However, later it was revised to March 2014 and now to December 31.

The building will have nine floors for its staff and another two floors will be for service areas. The total area of the building is 4,904 square metres. The design of it is iconic. Once ready, the majority of the staff will move to the swanky new office; however, the existing work place too would be functional. Relcon Infrastructure has constructed the structure, whereas Godrej was awarded the task of providing interior furniture and Pravin Electronics for eletric works and air-conditioning system.
