Mumbai: Andheri, Vile Parle residents protest over poor water supply
For the past fortnight, there have been constant complaints of water supply with low pressure in several parts of the city.

After Cuffe Parade, residents of Juhu and Vile Parle staged protests in front of Brihanmumbai corporation's ward office on Tuesday over poor water supply in the area for the last two weeks. They warned that they would lock the door of the ward office if water supply is not normalised by Wednesday, a deadline given by the hydraulic engineering official of K West ward.
For the past fortnight, there have been constant complaints of water supply with low pressure in several parts of the city. Residents of Juhu and Vile Parle have been complaining of the same too. They claimed that some of the areas did not receive water in the past two days. Last week, residents of Cuffe Parade had staged protests outside the A ward office in South Mumbai.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) coporators from Juhu and Vile Parle also joined in the protest. Aneesh Makwaaney, BJP croporator from ward 71, said that they have to face the ire of the locals due to poor water supply. "The civic administration has given many deadlines to restore supply, but they failed to meet it," said Makwaaney.
BJP MLA Ameet Satam also joined the protest and warned of more aggression next time. "They have given an October 28 deadline to fix some valve issue in the reservoir and if they fail to meet it, we will shut the door of the Hydraulic Engineering Department in the ward," said Satam.
September onwards, water supply has been affected in the stretch between Borivali in the western suburbs to Chembur in the eastern suburbs. Even residents of Juhu-Koliwada had not received water for three days.
The civic administration claimed they had informed that they would be withdrawing 3,800 MLD water from the reservoir everyday but the water supply won't be cut. However, due to repair work in the water mains, the supply pressure was low.
According to a senior civic official, the supply has been affected due to a fault in the valve in Veravali reservoir number three. "We are repairing it and soon normal water supply will be restored," said a senior official of the Hydraulic Engineering Department of BMC.
