Mumbai: Classes 5 to 10 of Shardashram Vidyamandir School will be affiliated to Maharashtra State Board

Shardashram Vidyamandir School in Dadar has finally come out with a decision with regard to the board they will affiliate to. They have decided to continue with SSC state board for Classes 5 to 10, and Class 1 to 4 will be affiliated to the ICSE board from the academic year of 2018-2019. For classes affiliated to the Delhi board, the school was renamed SVM International School.

In April this year the school had declared it will convert from a state board school to an ICSE board one — a move that was opposed by many parents.

On April 25, DNA had reported about the 'parents against school's move to convert to ICSE'. After lot of pressure from the parent's body and the Yuva Sena (students wing of the Shiv Sena), the school on Tuesday put up a notice board stating admissions for class 5 students from May 8 to 10 under the state board.

The parents had approached the Yuva Sena and the BMC education department, questioning them about the decision to change the school's name. They also alleged that the school did not notify them about converting into a central board school.

The Yuva sena had then written to BMC's education department asking on what basis it was granted an NOC, and whether the school should do away with the state board despite the student strength under it being good.

Harish Jadhav (name changed), one of the parents, said, "Earlier, the school had planned to completely do away with the state board and convert to an ICSE board school. But, after we approached different authorities, the school decided to continue with SSC for Classes 5 to 10."

Another parent, Satish Kadam (name changed), said, "We are happy to know that the school will continue with state board in the secondary section. But we are still worried about what may happen next year."

The school changed its decision after BMC's education committee members visited the school and met the management to put forth parents' grievances.

"Yuva Sena's demand to retain state board affiliation for Classes 5 to 10 was accepted by the school's management. We welcome the decision and the parents are happy, too. But, one must not neglect the way the education department had messed the situation up. We are not against ICSE board, but SSC board schools should not shut down so suddenly. We will follow up the matter," Sainath Durge, Shivsena-BMC Education Committee Member, said.

Subhash Jadhav, the administrative officer of the school, said, "We have decided to continue state board for Classes 5 to 10, that is, till Class 5 students write their SSC board exams."
